Ive got two sets of garden variety 4 leaf spring sets for a B body. I'd like to combine them together to increase ride height and stiffen the car up? First of all would this even increase ride height or am I missing something simple that would prevent it from doing so?

Second, is this safe to do? I know its not the right way, but does it pose any problems with safety that are possibly serious?

a prior owner added MANY leafs to my 74 valiant so he could haul blocks etc to swap meets. the height is increased, it hasn't posed any safety concerns other than when I run over a piece of gravel & the added leafs make my head bounce off the roof & I see stars for a few seconds

It would work just fine as long as you clamp the springs similar to the original way, and use the same leaf from each donor pack. it won't likely increase the height alot but one leaf per side should bring it up at least 1/2 an inch.

Don.

The springs in my son's 67 Barracuda are made up of two sets of factory heavy duty (340) worn out springs. I took a main leaf and added two of the largest sub-leaves, then two of the next-largest, and one of the third largest. Then I built the other side the same way. They are stiff and worked reasonably well autocrossing.

I have also been known to use heavy duty C-body wagon sub-leaves on an a-body main leaf. I will be doing this with my Barracuda convertible. Ride height is a lot harder to get right, but the springs work.

Thaat is basically what I want to do. If it came up an inch and didnt ride like the door handles were trying to touch the ground Id be thrilled.
