Suspension mounting points should be as close as anything. Locating holes in the subframes and rocker pinch welds as well. 60s, 70s and early 80's cars are all over the place. If the car has been hit or had sheetmetal replaced, good luck.
Use stands under the tires or support the car at multiple places including suspension mounting locations. Make sure the doors all open and close right.
Roll bars and cages require you to use your eyes as well as your tape measure and level. It is not uncommon to have to make something a little crooked to make it look right in the car. Work off of the center of the car to build the main hoop. If it's a pre-bent kit, you're kind of stuck making it look right as bent.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Is there a source to buy pre-bent bars that go through the package tray. I was going to keep the back seat in my car and I have a Jegs kit I got about 20 years ago but the bars are straight. Probably just going to have to bend my own but I just thought I'd ask here. Gus

Any idea of what level (pun intended) of level you are trying to achieve, other then "looking level"? I suspect what you are thinking is you are trying to correct current chassis to a satisfactory "level" state, before locking it in, with an added roll bar, to whatever you have now, correct?
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

When I installed mine I just measured and made the margins the same. More or less what I did for my 6 point bar. I already had frame connectors in the car that I had installed as level as I could get right. Then I just basically made my bar level to the car and to the rocker panels. Since my car is basically stock body wise and not setup with a race car suspension I just leveled it to the rockers and made sure it looked level in the car. Ron
