What are some good level points when getting ready to install a simple roll bar? The garage floor is not very level. Got some consistent measurement from the rocker rails. Not much flat surface for L to R. I don/t trust the radiator support because this car had a R fender bender in its history. Once I get some good level points, I'll shim each tire to level.

When I installed mine I just measured and made the margins the same.

Rear package tray area. Not always, but close.

I would say jack the car up and level off the bottom of the frame rails. Factory chassis cars are about impossible to get it perfect. But the closer the gooder.

Suspension mounting points should be as close as anything. Locating holes in the subframes and rocker pinch welds as well. 60s, 70s and early 80's cars are all over the place. If the car has been hit or had sheetmetal replaced, good luck.

Use stands under the tires or support the car at multiple places including suspension mounting locations. Make sure the doors all open and close right.

Roll bars and cages require you to use your eyes as well as your tape measure and level. It is not uncommon to have to make something a little crooked to make it look right in the car. Work off of the center of the car to build the main hoop. If it's a pre-bent kit, you're kind of stuck making it look right as bent.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Is there a source to buy pre-bent bars that go through the package tray. I was going to keep the back seat in my car and I have a Jegs kit I got about 20 years ago but the bars are straight.

Probably just going to have to bend my own but I just thought I'd ask here.

I always use the rockers front to rear.Side to side I use a piece of square tube across the front and rear frame rails. If the level points are slightly different, split the difference. Put the car on jack stands on the frame and use cheap vinyl tile under them to level it. I built some adjustable stands for under the far rear frame rails to keep the car from sagging. Works great for me. Rhodesracecars.com make nice, reasonable cage kits. They will do any modifications to the cage you want.

Any idea of what level (pun intended) of level you are trying to achieve, other then "looking level"? I suspect what you are thinking is you are trying to correct current chassis to a satisfactory "level" state, before locking it in, with an added roll bar, to whatever you have now, correct?

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

I was "levelheaded" before I was married and had kids. Now everything seems to be askew. I'm just looking to have the car sit level before I start installing the S&W 8 pt made for my Aspen. Considering that the concrete floor is not, an addition was made to the existing garage and there are some inclines were one floor meets the existing floor. Can I just let the car sit on the concrete and just adjust the L to R of the body and just let the front to back be the way it sits on the floor? Weld it in from there?

More or less what I did for my 6 point bar. I already had frame connectors in the car that I had installed as level as I could get right. Then I just basically made my bar level to the car and to the rocker panels. Since my car is basically stock body wise and not setup with a race car suspension I just leveled it to the rockers and made sure it looked level in the car. Ron
