Anyone have an experience w/ these boxes? Seems like a good deal.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-1966-1979-M...x/322896156125?

I need to either rebuild the one in my '70 cuda or get one already rebuilt. From past experience and aggravation, I'd rather not do this myself. So it's either send my current box out to be rebuilt or replace it.

Thoughts?

There is an identical thread about this about 1-2 years ago. I'd think an infinite number of times before sending money to an organization named "Bro-Speed". Maybe too many years of watching "How I Met Your Mother". But, seriously, Bro?

My suggestion if you want a new box is to buy one through Rockauto made by Lares Corp, way up in the frozen wastelands of Minnesota. You can buy a rebuilt or you can buy a new one either 16:1 or 24:1 ratio. They're not cheap but they're made in the USA. I checked. Another hot rod manufacturer that makes parts in the USA is Flaming River. I also checked with them and their steering stuff is made in or near Cleveland, where the river actually DID catch fire several years ago.

My initial reaction was that a manual box isn't that complicated and can usually be rebuilt by an amateur. There isn't really all that much to them. I rebuilt my Saginaw 525 box in a parking lot.

I don't know anything about the quality of the EBAY steering box or the seller but it's weight saving aluminum and the 20:1 ratio is a little quicker than the factory 24:1 but not as heavy as the 16:1 box, things to consider.

dogdays...I agree on the "brospeed" name deal, but I've seen others selling boxes similarly priced.
The only steering box I've messed with was on a tractor and it was a PITA. Never been into a car box.

The Flaming River boxes are cast iron AFAIK, so that's a no for me.

I looked on rockauto but didn't see an option for a complete steering box? Saw some rebuild kits, but no box.

My question would be that since it appears to be a "one size fits all" is it really a B/E body box or an A body box? Isn't there a difference in the lower bearing?

iagree Not a whole lot to a manual box. up

IIRC, the bushing vs. bearing goes back to mid-60s? when the changeover took place.

I used one of those ebay specials on my 66 dart. Car drives great. Granted it doesn't get many miles on it but it has been fine on my car for 10 years.

All my power steering stuff goes to firm feel

It's the almost 50 year old original box that's never been off the car. Has a good bit of play in it and I've tightened it up a couple times already.
I'd like to get as much play out of the steering dealing w/ wheelstands/landings at the track.

It was me that had the thread 2 years ago. I bought it from a different vendor and it was a little more, but I haven't had any issues with mine. The quality seemed good. Actually fit fine, came packed with grease, and looks identical to the factory box it replaced.

We went from a 24 to a 16:1 manual on the stock car & it was night & day in the corners (before it was hand over hand nonsense). Not sure if it would be recommended for the street but check into that (iirc people said parallel parking was hard (you can live with that) & that with skinny tires daily driveing was manageable).

GTX Matt...thankyou for the info.

RapidRobert...I think I want to stick w/ the 24:1 that I'm used to. I don't want it to react real fast.

Supercuda...thanks! I swear I looked at all the options when I did the search, guess not.

If you go that route let us know how it went.

Thanks
