So i got a 6.4 out of a Challenger. 9000 km on the short block. It was out of a stick car. Im trying to build the best torque monster with this short block. I plan on using this as a daily driver. The Ram is a crew cab 4x4. The big question is what heads to use? Stock 5.7 eagles or do i ports a set of earlier heads? Don't mind the work. I have use 6.1 valves that i can use in the earlier heads. I want the best velocity for this almost stock engine. Keep in mind the eagle heads will push my compression over 11to 1. Should be able to lower it enough with gaskests. Port opening on early head will need to open up. Truck will have headers and obviously a tune.

Don't be afraid to run the 11 to 1 or more, reducing quench is worse and with the plastic intake and efficient chamber EFI... they are extremely tolerant of compression. Run the eagle heads, seems the manufactures have fingered out velocity ain't all that and certainly don't beat flow, the 392 BGE uses basically an SRT head with even bigger ports than the Eagle and they don't lack TQ. Also the no quench of the early open chamber head kills TQ.
If absolute low RPM is where you want peak TQ then use a 5.7 cam, the only problem with this reasoning is even a stock converter is going to stall at a higher RPM than peak TQ and you will never get to use it, minimum use the 6.4 BGE cam. I would not even be afraid to use a manual cam from a 6.4 SRT. The truck intake, 6.4 SRT cam higher compression will give you more TQ than a 6.4 SRT engine and more HP because the truck intake is better, the front runners are not smashed down for hood clearance.

Would it not have been easier to just order the truck with a 6.4? Can't in a 1500 series

Do the Eagles, plus everything Dave said....I opt for the MDS 6.4 cam for "daily truck", if you were doing a RCSB4x2 I'd push for the Non MDS 6.4 cam.
These G3s look at 11 to 1 like the old Big Blocks looked at 9.5 to 1 .
if you have the coin to spend Comp has a custom grind for the VVTs .589/.589 lift 212/219 @50 lobe Separation 111.5 installed @ 105 pulls nicely under 5k, but you can't use the Eagle(or 6.4) Springs you have to use aftermarket.
oh and check the part # on your crank that might help to identify the year of your 6.4, 2011-2012 has one #, the tone wheel is thinner for them, the 2013-15 is a different # and I think 2016 is the same between car and truck.
