Hi All,
Its time to buy a new set and wondered if I should make changes or leave it as is. It works just fine I guess, but got to thinking. This is my 2nd race car, BB duster 727 4.56 ,will run 9.60s but not certified so we slack off the cable to run right a 10.00 off the foot brake, 60' is around 1.39-1.42. This car has MT 31.25 x 15 x12.5w . The first car duster bb 727 4.30 10.30-10.40s 1.45 60' 31x15x10.5w . Second car didnt have as much motor as the current car. Is more rubber on the ground always better ? Or does the size of the tire become detrimental at some point.
Both cars ss springs and sa shocks set 90/10 and 50/50
If I knew how to attach a video of the launch I would , but I dont.

If it ain't broke why try to fix it work
I use to race a hemi and a M.W. car in NHRA stock with two different size 9 inch slicks. All the old SS and modified production racers back then(mid 1970s) would run the smallest tire that they could hook up on well their cars.
I ask one of the better BS/M racers why he change his tires so often, he was sponsored by Firestone at that time and he said his car didn't seem to hook as well after the third run on that size tire(that was before we where given 60 ft. times) Another one of his comments was he wanted the least amount of weight and drag possible after leaving the starting line work up
I have ran those same tires your using and they flat worked well up
A lot of the SS racers still use them today scope

Sounds like both cars are working well. If your not having hook issues and your 60 ft. is good, no need to make any other changes. You're not chasing et with either of them, so no sense searching for every hp and .01 of a second until you and your cars are ready.

The 10.5w31 works well for me. Been 1.240 on the foot brake. Very consistent 60fts usually plus/minus .005

Doug I would be curious to know what you rear suspension is and what power level in general. That’s an impressive 60 off the foot break.

The original Firestone 31.25x12.5x15 where a really big tire, I remember them having around 103 inch circumference with 14.0 tread width shruggy
Are the current M/T similar in size?

Rear is 36" ladder bar, stock frame rails, Koni double adjustable, 120# rear spring. Front is Afco doubles revalved 50% stiffer, 6 cylinder torsion bars. 4.30 gear, Ultimate 9" converter (6000 flash), 3345 lbs. Motor has never been dynoed. I would imagine somewhere around 900HP. Car has been 9.00@150 best.
