I'll take a guess from the VIN it to be a 1968 B-body from Lynch Road assembly plant as a start?

I suppose the Bell housing is the key and then the spline Configuration? It's in my car right now and is not the original obviously.

can you clean off the stamped pad?

if it is 8A205095, then it was/is a Plymouth B-body

bellhousing doesn't matter,
23-spline = 383 2bbl (anything but RR/GTX), 383 4bbl (anything but GTX) or 383HP (RR ONLY)
18-spline = 440HP (GTX ONLY) or HEMI (RR or GTX)

Ok enlighten me I thought the last 6 numbers were purely a sequence number. How do the fives signify a Plymouth? How would you know if it were a dodge?

I'm wondering the same thing.

I haven't had a chance yet to look at the Casting Numbers but can this indicate any significance of HP?
How can you tell what spline count you have without taking the transmission out of the car?

No need to take the trans apart if it is off of the car and you can see the front shaft with the clutch removed. The spline count is the part of the front shaft that inserts into the clutch center. The 18 spline is the shaft with the "V" taper at the end of the splines.

And the 18 spline shaft is larger and longer......."that's what she.......... drumhit

I see "5", is that what they both are? scope

1968 Lynch Rd. VIN sequence numbers are arranged in Plymouth B-body and Dodge B-body "batches"

8A205095 or 8A205096 are both Plymouths
but with my limited amount of 1968 Lynch Rd. data I can not confirm whether 8A206095 or 8A206096 are Dodges or Plymouths

Certain members have constructed VIN databases that show that VINs were created in batches.

This how some people can tell if your TA engine was in a TA or an AAR.
