Todd, you should also post in the 'stickied' thread up top, for the AAR block you have & a separate thread for the block you are hoping to find. twocents

(non-sticked threads can drop off over time)

More about a possible block for 311287 below that Todd is already aware of, maybe it will ring a bell or two?

A TA block was listed on Syracuse, NY Craigslist in February 2014. The VIN listed in the text was 211287 which is too low for any AAR or T/A.

Typo in the ad?

Number hard to read?

I asked about it back then but no response from the seller.

The seller was contacted by Todd recently & he was told that an AAR owner in Michigan bought it.

Did I get that right Todd?

MI AAR owners, does that ring any bells?

Yes Sir,
I did in fact call the number to which Barry gave me of the original posting. The gentlemen told me that he couldn't remember the details of either the Block vin sequence nor could he give me a contact number for the person he sold the block to. He could only say that it was someone out of Michigan State..
I'd like to give him another call and see if he would agree to post his contact information on one of these sites. Maybe "fingers crossed" the owner of the block in Michigan might see his thread.
Thanks,
Toad

Here's a question;
Can a T/A block casting date be accurate to determine the vin Sequence time? Or were they all Cast within a very short run.

Not really.

The first run of TA blocks have casting dates in Nov. '69, way ahead of any production cars being made.

Each engine does have a final assembly date stamped in the front surface of it though.

That's right,
How ever I have read that almost all of the T/A's were made before Friday April 17th of 1970.. So the assembly of most T/a's took place in a couple of weeks?

Point being that The Fender tag build date of the Car won't line up with the build date of the motor.. right? Motor assembly will always be before the fender tag of the car, but by how much?
Thanks

engine assembly date is the date the engine WAS assembled

date on fender tag is "Scheduled Production Date" - "scheduled" being the important word
"Actual Production Date" can be weeks "EARLY" to months "LATE"

do you have a broadcast sheet or door sticker from your T/A?

If you do, only show them online publicly if & when a car is for sale.

Hey Todd,
Back on topic here.

The fender tag / broadcast sheet date is the SPD (Scheduled Production Date) which is the date they HOPED to build the car when the order was first entered into the system.

But actual build dates were not recorded except in unusual circumstances, like 'last' one on any given calendar day.

The actual build month was shown on the Mylar door stickers.

But some cars were actually built earlier or later than their SPD & original door stickers can be earlier or later by a month or more also.

One example is my T/A, 417 SPD , April Mylar, but the numbers matching engine was assembled April 22, so from that I know that the car was finished in April, but with a final assemble date on the engine of 422, I know that the car was finished in April, but later than the hoped for date of 417.

These cars were not built in actual VIN order either.

So the only way to know the final assembly date on any numbers matching engine (or transmission) is to look at the original block / transmission as the case may be that matches the VIN of the car - if all stampings are in fact original to them.

As another example of a 1970 Hamtramck car, my 1970 Valiant shows an early April SPD, yet a March door sticker.

So for whatever reason it was completed earlier than hoped for.

I wish in this case the car was left in it's original color. The door sticker would still have been present in all likely hood. I have read that door stickers can be ordered for replacement but would you need a Broadcast sheet for accuracy?
Thanks

the small amount of info I have shows 417 "scheduled" 1970 Hamtramck E-bodies

"In Plant/In Process" as EARLY as 4/16 & as LATE as 4/23

being the middle of the month, or unless you have a lot of date or other evidence of the car being built more than 2 weeks early or late, a "4 - 70" door sticker would be your best bet

I think there was a post for a Cuda aar damaged in a fire. He decided to restore it in large part because his car was one of four to be built after 417.. Not sure if this was on his Tag, I'm guessing it was.The Fender tag on my car is 417 so like you say the tags and the actual build varies.

I've come in and out of the site a few times, and am not a online Junky.. not that I wouldn't like to be at times but always busy. So I apologize if I seems as though I'm using the site just for my own benefit.
I have a question how ever about getting a Door sticker reproduced. Is this a No No if you have some of the documentation of the car meaning Fender Tag, pictures of the Body vin's ect..? I have been on the MMC site and I know they reproduce the Fender tags, but not sure about Door tag. Do you need the Broadcast sheet or is there anything they can do otherwise.
Thanks

ECS as mentioned repops the door sticker. I believe you just need to provide the actual VIN and have proof; IE - vehicle reg. copy of title etc. There's no options codes on the door tag, so no need for a b cast sheet.

My Challenger T/A was also damaged in a fire and is also one of the last produced with an SPD of 421. Those of us with late build Trans Am cars need to be careful with flames! smile
