I was at a friend's house and noticed coasters on various tables and countertops. I remember using them a long time ago, but got away from them over the years. Seeing them again brought back fond memories. I have a couple old ones in my house now. Thinking of getting them restored.

Who still uses coasters?

Coasters? Love 'em or Hate 'em?
single choice

I'll be sorely disappointed if the usual Moparts suspects don't find a way to turn this into an argument.

Don't worry. It's almost guaranteed, lol.

I have a few in the living room on the end tables. Am I a fanatic about using them? No

My wife uses them in our house. I can't be bothered with remembering to use them!

Coasters started disappearing as people started buying crap furniture. Anyone I know who has real wood tables uses coasters.

Most of mine seem to have some sort of beer advertising on them...

Since the advent of polyurethane we've found them unnecessary.
If about the other type as a kid growing up I wanted a soap box derby car, that never happened. Yet with youthful determination of scrounging and an couple visits to a repair shop I sourced 2x4's a piece of plywood, a bolt some nails and 4 matching transmission bearings.
Whittling down the 2x4's to accept the i.d. of the bearing and fixing them with nails through the nubs of the whittled axle. The rear axle was nailed to the ply, the front with the bolt and finally a piece of rope nailed to each end of the front axle became the steering. We had great fun with those on the steep hill we lived. Especially spectacular was our twilight runs when we'd borrow dads can of ronson lighter fuel and spray it on a back wheel as we sprayed sparks, then flames.
Might be cool to build a wall hangar for old time sake.

How could such a heavy subject matter not result in a heated debate?

Well I did find some, had to ask the wife. Right next to a note dated 2004, next to alot of tarnished silver.

I am coaster neutral, that is all.

No shortage of them on ebay, old and new.

iagree The main thing is that wood finishes have changed and are not as sensitive to the white rings or black rings that older more traditional finishes were susceptible to.

We still have them and use them when we remember to. But often we do not remember and the furniture still has no rings.

We use coasters, period.

Always have so there is no "comeback".

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.
