Thats the fun part. As much as I enjoy driving them I love the garage time too. Put on some good music and enjoy the work. :-)

Overwhelmed ??? Just take it one day, one project at a time . . . before you know it, you are driving it !!! . . . My Sport Satellite was 10 years collecting parts, 8mths in body/paint, and then another 2 years to assemble (all by myself in my garage, with no lift !) . . . .

Nice to see a Satellite done so well.

I am on the tail end of 20 years since buying my GTS in 1999. That was when the parts collecting started. Work started in 2002. With lots of breaks for house, 2 kids, job change, etc. In the home stretch now.

Awesome.

My brother has his bird in paint right now.

Glad to see these birds getting back into fighting form.

Good luck, just make sure whatever you do get everything in writing when you pick a paint shop, and make sure your car description, 1970 superbird, AND the vin are on every receipt. There are many great shops and people around but many cover their a%$ by putting something like 1969 roadrunner, or 1970 mopar.... with no vin guess what happens when there is a problem, we never worked on a superbird. You will not be happy if it ever goes south and you end up in court. Keep insurance on it, take pictures of it at the shop with the shop owner standing with the car, just tell them you want it all for your documentation, and car show photo book. Past reputations mean nothing anymore.

Excellent advice. I personally got burned by a body shop on my restoration. It sickens me to think of the money and time that I lost in the process. I'm fortunate enough to have gotten the car back and that I was finally able to get it to a shop that was able to complete the body work.

I think almost all of us have a body shop horror story

I guess my other advice is find a frame shop that can mount your car by the pinch welds, hang gauges, and laser measure it and the front structure. My body shops owner told me they could do that, has 2 frame machines, so why would I worry, claimed my car was good point to point....I found frame damage after removing the tar. I call them, oh we can't fix that, our frame guy died 4 years ago!!! The man told me, 2 friends and my wife in my garage before he got the car he could finish the car start to finish, frame check no problem. The guys reputation is impeccable, turns out award winning cars, so be careful. I talked to him friday, he feels that damage would not have affected body panel fit...upper structure was 3/4 over to the left, hood adjustment maxed out. The body man asked if anything was written down stating they should check the frame, but at least admitted car was never pinch weld mounted. See the little out they have. I guess record every conversation too.

Yeah, I guess "overwhelmed" was a bad choice of words. I have build quite a few ground up mopars including a Junkyard roadrunner cloned into a n award winning superbird clone in less than two years. At least this bird has all the original parts and is low mileage so its coming apart easy. It will be a labor of Love as stated before.

Yeah, no problem there as I will be doing all the work myself and using my friends down draft paint booth. But I see where you are coming from. Thanks.
