I know there is a good pic out there on how to install the offset upper control arm bushings, but I have tried google and everything else and I can not find it...

Also, do you need to install all 4 or will 2 give you enough caster?

I know there is a good pick that Rick E-burg has in mopar action but I can not find it...

I am talking about the Moog K7103 bushings that are offset.

THANKS in advance,
6t6

I do't have a pic but I would recomend installing the front bushings with the hole off set to the inside/away from the ball joint and the rear bushing with the hole offset to the out side/closet to the ball joint on each arm. This will give you the most possible caster and that is what's lacking from the factory set up's.

sorry no pic but you basically want to set the upper ball joint as far back (towards the rear) as possible if you want more caster. so if you lay the control arm flat on a table the front bushing has the hole further away from ball joint and the rear bushing is closer to the ball joint. not sure if you will need all 4 or not. hope this was a little helpful.
i see wild bill beat me to it

You do need all 4
and there IS a pic in the tech archives.
Look under suspension.

Also, check all the boxes, there is an instruction sheet describing the correct installation that for some reason does not always make it to the customer in the box.

I may have kept one of the instruction sheets for reference. I'll check and post if I have one.

I put this together a while ago, I didn't create this, just modified the original so I could understand why the offset bushings helped.

Also. be aware that even IF you find the instruction sheet, it might NOT show the installation for maximum increase in caster. Instead, it might show how to install to get the most increase in camber. The two methods differ in how the rear bushing is installed. Both methods would have the front bushing installed so that the control arm is shifted OUT.

To increase camber, the rear gets installed the same way (shifting the arm OUT). To increase caster (which is what you want), the rear gets installed shifting the arm IN, as is shown by the diagram in the post previous to mine.

Down to just a blue car now.

Thanks to all, I have them on order, but I wanted to make sure I knew how to install them before I got everything together...

Where are you getting you parts just curious, I'll be doing this real soon as well. Also, can any one explain simply, what a positive caster does for handling?

Thanks.

I am getting the bushings from Summit; about the same price as anywhere (except the local parts stores); I was combining it with some other things I needed...

Caster is like the wheel a shopping cart, more caster will cause the wheel to track "straight" the advantage is better control at higher speeds at the expense of some additional steering effort.

Our cars where designed for bias plys and they apparently did not need as much caster to track straight, so there was not that much adjustment in the orig setup...

Mine were just ordered from autopartsgiant.com, they beat all of rockauto.com prices and had free shipping.
I only got the offsets for the front and regulars for the rear. I was told the fronts only needed to be done?

The more positive caster a front end has, the more it "wants" to point straight ahead. What this also means is that it takes more effort to turn it away from straight ahead. When vintage Mopars were originally built, one of the perceived benefits of engineering cars and creating alignment specs with little (or negative) caster was reduced steering effort. Concern with better stability and handling trumps that in today's world.

Another analogy for positive caster stability would be riding a bicycle. Bikes generally have positive caster. If you extend an imaginary line through the steering pivot (the front frame tube holding the fork/handlebars), that line intersects the ground forward of a vertical line through the axle shaft. Because of this, the wheel "wants" to stay straight and track "behind" the imaginary pivot line. This is why, at speed, one can ride a bike without even holding the handlebars.

Do you guys recommend buying the OFFSET bushings all the time?

Stock '70 valiant in desperate need of Uppers. Just trying to get a handle on it. NAPA sells 'Stock' and Additional Caster Adjustment ones... The car is stock, If I go with additional caster bushings, will it be a problem? How tough are these pressed in? Can I get them in with heavey hammer and Big socket to straddle the rubber?
