2 questions,

1. Will the pre cut 426 Hemi wires fit my 1st Gen 392?

2. Hard to get plug wires to fit snug on the plug (392 again). On drag cars I see Hemi wires with what looks like a hard plastic tab on the wires where they go onto the plug. Ever see those? Do you know where I can get those?

The biggest thing would be the different lengths would not reach. Cocked eyed dist in front vs straight up dist in the back.

Believe the wires you’re inquiring about are msd, I have a set of those, just looked in my garage, but not there, think they’re in my trailer, which I might visit 1 Day this week. Dave ss/ea #1355

The MSD hemi plug wires are awesome. You can make them any length that you want.

No, the 426 wires will not work, lengths are all wrong.

I use a 354 Hemi as one of my carb test engines and recently went through the plug wire dilemma. Hot Heads was a huge help, they offer several choices for early Hemis. I chose the modern Hemi boots and Taylor cut to fit wires, it's not difficult, just follow the directions and measure twice before cutting! I also went with Taylor wire looms (second pic) which keep them tidy when not using the factory wire covers. Very happy with fit and function.

The most common problem with Gen I Hemis is oil leaking around the spark plug wire holes, so far I've had none with the GenIII boots (which have a push in seal incorporated) but if you want overkill there are some expensive screw together seals you can buy that pretty much leak proof them. Yes, I have always used the Taylor wires from HotHeads. Some times getting the wire to "snap" onto the plug is kinda like pushing a rope up a Bobcats butt. I replaced my Mallory electronic distributor with a MSD with the HEI cap. All the wires I have gotten from Hot Heads only would fit the standard caps with the female "holes". I have pretty good luck except the front plug on the drivers side. Not much room on this 392 under hood of a 48 DeSoto. I have found that if I pull the wire a little further out of the plastic sleeve, it helps. I am using the 426 boots.
I had not seen those seals on ebay before. Do you know if they will fit my Hot Heads valve covers?
By the way, never seen such a clean and organized shop. You should see mine.

I have used the universal Taylor wires from Hot Heads. I just figured if I could get a set made to fit, would be simpler. I'm big on simpler, K.I.S.S.

Yea, I think the reason more early Hemi "Readymade" sets aren't out there is due the many variables in early Hemi engine layouts, valve covers, with or without wire covers, cast or stamped, distributor types, etc. then there are the different boot and seal preferences. As far as which brand wire you choose when making up custom sets, there are many good ones, just a matter of preference. I'm currently doing a 392 build and will be exploring some other options as well, still not entirely sure which way the build will go, stone stock or a little crazy, blower, etc.

I finally made a decision. I bought the MSD #31523 (black), universal. Suppose to be here Friday, 12/28.
Do you have a preference on plugs for the 392? I have been using long reach Champions?
What is that bracket on the wire covers, passenger side?

I just use the long reach Champions, seem to work well. The bracket on the valve cover attaches to end of the air cleaner to stabilize it.

Gap 35?

Bought & used the MSD wires on my Hemi. Removed the MSD logo's off of the wires & on the cap boot retaining hold down for more of that OEM look. (Well, sort of).

Not much info from MSD instructions. Each plug tube had a black plastic ring that "can" snap to end of plug tube. Are these "rings" optional? What is advantage or dis advantage if the "rings" are not used. Also, the tubes way to long. Why so long? I had to cut about 3 inches from each.

I didn't recall. Did OEM spray 5 kits?
