I picked up another block, they guy I bought it from said it takes a 55MM cam. He also said 1' lifter bores but they are not, just standard .904. Front cam bearing hole is 2.470. Is that what a 55MM cam shaft fits?
thanks

No body knows what Dia. camshaft to use in a block with a 2.47 bore on the first cam bearing?

Look up the O.D. of a 55mm cam bearing.

Once we cut the roller lifter apart and push it enough out of the way to pull the Cam shaft out and then push the lifter into the cam location to get it out without any damage, I will measure the cam journals to see what they measure on the cam shaft. Motor ran good with a main stud laying in the oil pan 870s and the roller bearing gone away on one lobe. Cam is still good but this Indy block has been a pain over the years. Might take a few weeks.

63mm OD on the bearing. I get 2.480" (63mm). Maybe your block needs some line honing on the cam bores? Is the rear bore the same size?

Mine is a little shy of 63mm, maybe there is some crush? The back bearing is close but the calipers wont reach the journal surface. This block is new but has been passed through a couple hands along the way. Thank you

Thanks, sounds like a nightmare. I just switched from the indy block, I had a no problems with it, but being it was one of the first water blocks with no webbing, I was really worried about breaking it. Good luck

My Hemi block was machined for SS racing, short deck (10.40") and 2.500" cam bores for the BB Ford cam journals (2.125"). It has the standard Babbitt bearing on #5, the rest are the BBF.

I would think you would only want .001"-.002" press fit. Not really sure as heads are holding up my build (thanks MCH).

Camshaft Journal Diameter
Many of the newer racing engines utilize a larger than standard cam bearing journal diameter. The advantages of the larger diameter are less flex and a larger base circle to smooth out the lobe design, making this a very desirable addition to any extreme racing engine. It is very common to use a 2.125” Ford babbit bearing in the Hemi engine. Some of the latest oval track blocks feature a roller bearing and require a 1.968” journal diameter. Make sure to specify journal size when ordering your cam. If no special size is requested, the standard journal will be chosen.

I measured the cam shaft were the bearings would be and it came to 2.167, 2.169, 2.1685, 2.170, 2.1675. Tough one with the cam roller bear still in it but here is what I got but it could be a little off, 2.2484-----2.150. Hope this helps block will go to the machine shop in a couple of day to be honed.

55mm equals 2.16

60mm equals 2.36

62.738 equal 2.47

I would imagine it would depend on what bearing you are running to make up the distance between block and cam. You might need to call someone like Tim Banning or Todd on this board Saquash and ask them they have more experience than I have with building different hemi motors.

My Indy block uses 55mm roller bearings. I'll measure the outer diameter and get back to you, but it sounds like yours will use 55mm babbit bearings.

Hard to measure my bores with the bearings in place, but it looks like the block bore is 2.480" for my 55mm roller bearings. It doesn't look like there is a taper on the front edge, but I guess it's possible.

Thanks guys, it seems like he is right with saying it was for a 55mm cam, I'll get some bearings and install before getting a new cam made

You need to use a inside micrometer or a telescoping gauge with a outside micrometer or even a inside dial bore gauge to measure the cam bearing holes in the block accurately scope
