How old is the battery? Is the alternator charging fully?

I've seen quite a few late models that 'fired right up' but had idle/stalling issues because the battery was actually weak. The systems in new(er) vehicles are much more dependent on having a specific voltage.

My twocents to give this a bump

My wife's similar vintage '07 Dodge Nitro with 160K would occasionally stall at idle or near idle speeds, during pulling into parking stalls, etc.

No PCM codes were thrown, and we chased all sort of avenues without much luck including reflashing the PCM itself. Turns out is was the EGR valve which was heavily sooted. You can try and clean it, but ultimately we replaced our valve and the problem didn't return.

Has the throttle body ever been cleaned?

Definitely clean the throttle body. You can probably get by with just pushing it open and using a rag with brake or carb cleaner to remove the carbon buildup unless it's really bad.

I also had issues with the crank position sensor on mine. I would occasionally have stalling problems, usually coasting down to a light. It lost crank signal once, then took forever to start a year or two back. Replaced it and it hasn't stalled since. Hard to verify that though without a scantool on it when it's acting up for you.

There's a similar thread in the "general" section right now. Different motor, so might not help...

did you recently put new plugs in it? if you did but did not have this problem before, and you put anything but dealer spark plugs in it, that may be the problem. i was going to put autolites in my 5.7 but my friend whom is a district mgr and used to teach at st louis mo training center, stopped me. he said there is a tsb concerning the use of non dealer plugs that will cause what you are describing. i was skeptical but ohmed them with the autolites and store bought champions. they were different. he also said even with scan tool hooked up, there is no way to tell why it died or stalled. hope this helps.

Have had trucks where the lock up trans convertor doesn't release when coming to a stop, causing the truck to stall just like a stick truck that you would forget to push the clutch in. Have you had the trans serviced recently? Some times the filter is not installed correctly causing the pressure to drop. Remember pressure holds the lockup off not on.
