Ok guys finally got it in the car and took it for a test drive. Car feels much stronger with the rebuilt trans and new Turbo Action converter.

But......I now have no control over shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. It still drives like an automatic and changes by itself very late in 1st to 2nd. I opted for the "Full manual" mods on the Fairbanks kit but did not install their 1-2 shift governor plug as it only stated that it gave full control of down shifting back into 1st.

Shouldn't I have control of all gears without it? I also have the kickdown lever tied all the way back.

So now you have a manual VB.... what do you mean
you cant control the shift.. if you have in in
low it should be in low till you shift it and
when you down shift it should
EDIT
I'm wondering if the gov still being in there is
screwing with it.. all the trans that have been
changed to manual didnt have the gov

What is the number of the Fairbanks kit you installed? Sounds like it isn't full manual.

This is the kit: Fairbanks 10430 kit

It looks to be the same as the B&M and TCI kits.

"Delivers full manual control at any speed which increases the overall performance level." is deceptive. They're talking about downshifting with the included governor plugs.

It's still an automatic trans and will start out in first no matter the shifter position in forward gears. Having the TP lever partway back only delays the automatic upshift and can cause damage with WOT use.

If you want full manual, you need the TransGo TF-3 or B&M Manual Pack.

That's the problem John I don't have full manual control. I will replace the 1-2 governor plug and see what happens.

What does the Transgo TF-3 kit do or have that's different to turn it into a full manual valve body?

Again, all the governor plug does is allow you to downshift at any speed whereas a stocker won't downshift until the car slows to a lower speed. Pretty useless for anything but off-roading.

The TF-3 and other forward manual kits reroute the line pressure to bypass the governor to give full manual control, so the car will take off and remain in the gear selected.

I think the Transgo TF-3 is the only full manual kit on the market then?
