Hi guys, have a SB stroked, lower half of the block is grouted, closed chamber W2 race heads, 11.25 CR, solid roller cam, it’s mostly street driven but also 1/4 mile ground pounding, I have a PRW mechanical pump but would also like the option of running an electric pump, so, should I get a Moroso or a Meziere pump, which one fella’s???

I have had great luck with Meziere, I have run it for around 20 years with lots of street miles. I did have an issue with it a few years ago and they repaired it quickly and for a fair price.

If you have the room I would get the higher flow pump, I have the 35GPM and I think the higher flow pump would cool better on the highway. I don't have cooling problems really but my highway situation could be better.

I can say from my personal experience with the brands you mentioned, and a couple others, mez would be tops, or stewart emp remote.

In a street car, one of the best systems I've seen is a Stewart modified mechanical, with one of their in line electric remotes in the lower hose.

When/if it gets hot, the remote comes on and blasts it right down.

Meziere would be my only choice.

Mr P, my set up is in an E Body, remote filter etc, do you have a preferred/ recommended/suggested oil cooler, brand type size maybe? I have an oily temp sender set up in the pan.
I could place the cooler in front of the right front wheel inside the fender (not preferred due to potential damage from tire pickup etc) the only other place would be lower front balance however I think that would limit me to a cooler only without fan, thoughts anyone?

Meziere has always had a good reputation.
I have a Moroso pump for a smallblock, never used it but it looks and feels like a good piece.

You can look at Summit or Jegs to find a cooler
but you want to look at 1/2" in and out..
you want flow.. B&M makes a nice cooler.. I run
one from the filter using a remote then to the
cooler

I'm using an oil cooler like this, and it works awesome. It's easier to plumb water lines than oil lines. And it's light.

I have CSR reverse flow. Never again. May sell this one and take the hit. PITA. Doesn't purge air. Tried every trick I know. Raised the front end 3 feet in the air, pulled a vacuum on the system to maximize fill. Damn near lost a new engine due to cavitation. I finally installed a zerk fitting next to the pump motor, on top, to bleed air from the vane cavity. Works, buts makes a mess.

I also installed hollow bolts in the cylinder heads on the intake face LF and RR. Drilled through the bottom of the bolt hole into the coolant passage to bleed air from being trapped in the cylinder heads. Crazy how much air was trapped even after I got the coolant flowing. Makes an even bigger mess when bleeding.

CSR makes a quality product, or so it seams, but the reverse flow pump has issues....FWIW

Thanks. I keep thinking about trying one some day but I have to be sure it will work good on my street car. I use the stock mech waterpump setup now and have no overheating problems. I do have a backup pusher electric fan in front of the rad for if I get stuck in traffic for a half hr or more as it will keep it from creeping up over 200 on a 95 plus day. I don't know if its worth me trying one since I do mostly street driving ? Thanks , Ron

Buy this and it will fill and remove air at the same time. Works great.

Way ahead of you on that one. I have two different brands. Neither resolved the cavitation problem.

I have had several of the Moroso units.
The older ones didnt pump a ton of water and were admittedly marginal for street use.
That said, the new ones( been out 4 or 5 years now) pump WAY more water and work fine on the street.
I like how they look, and how they come ready to bolt up to the stock location as opposed to others needing extra plates, etc.
Like anything, the cooling system involves more than just the water pump. Having a good fan and other components are important too.
Both the older style Moroso and this newer one have given me zero issues failure wise in the probably 20 ish years i have now run them.
I wont run anything else. They new ones are great, cool excellent, little cheaper, good looking, and super reliable.
Anybody thst has the newer one i am sure would agree. Nice piece

Now days almost every car or truck has a electric
pump from the factory
EDIT
Sorry.. I though we were talking FUEL pumps..
water ones just about all 4 bangers have them
but most V-6 and V-8s run mech pumps

wonder what GPH a 4cyl water pump would put out ? i'm guessing it would be in line with a hose ? just thinking out loud.
if the package could be small enough, perhaps a pump for each head like a flathead ford ?

BMW has had factory remote water pumps for at least the last decade.

PS they are not cheap

My Chevy Volt has three electric water pumps. They're small and relatively inexpensive.
