Very durable. Way more durable than any spray can paint at room temperature. I'd say 60% to 75% as durable between regular spray can and powder coating.

The run in and buildup on the valve cover was because I put too much paint on it to start and higher heat. The air cleaner lid was with the light coat method with less heat. The air cleaner was 100% better.

What did you use to clean your oven - looks pretty good with the p/s parts inside?

Comet.

I don’t use it much. The first pic looks worse than it was. It was not from drying paint.

I'm a little late to the party but wanted to toss these in.

VHT can look great but it's tough to get consistent results.

Despite the earlier claim powder coating may not look "original," it was apparently good enough for the MCACN judges a few years ago. The Commando valve covers featured are on a '65 Dart Charger that scored 996 out of a possible 1,000 points ... and the covers were not one of the deductions.

The same black wrinkle powder is used on my factory-style air cleaner restorations too.

As to needing 'perfect' metal for powder to look great, that depends on who does the work. I have never been a fan of traditional powder coating fillers -- they ALL suck lol (and prefer to do real bodywork rather than merely slopping some goo in there) -- but found something suitable several years ago that fits the bill on the rare occasions I use it.

I guess I've ignored this forum for too long and don't have enough posts to share any photos yet but my website has hundreds of them. Hit me up if you have questions or if I can help.

MCACN is not "O.E." judging, 1000 points is a great accomplishment but it's not nearly as involved as O.E. Judging. The average O.E. car is scored 3-4000 points, a MUCH higher level of factory correctness is required to achieve the gold level. That in mind, the MCACN judges are allowed to give "close" items a pass, and of course, some items will get missed altogether, it doesn't mean that the item in question is correct simply because it passed muster at a car show judging. Bottom line, powder coating can look very nice, but it is not the same as what these cars had when new. .02

Thanks! That helps. I was under the impression they were pretty strict.
