On the parachute mount
After doing trans on my back for 35+ years with just a regular floor jack....lol

What's a decent low profile trans jack ? Harbor freight, jegs ? Don't need anything fancy but something that will hold it better than it teetering on a regular floor jack.

My wife bought me a Craftsman all manual tranny jack years ago, I still use it up scope It works great when replacing the tranny with the car on jack stands.
A friend of mine has a lot better one (Bendpak brand) for use on a car lift, but I don't really know how well it works, it seems a little wobbly to me work
EDITED: The one I have is like the 450 Lbs. H.F. shown in Jeremiah post scope It uses a 1/2 inch ratchet to raise and lowered it, it also tilts some front to rear up

I have this and it has been flawless. It's a must have for a stick shift guy. Automatic will be even easier.

"800 lb" Trans Jack

I wouldn't put 800 lbs on it however it is the only jack we have that does not leak down overnight other than my 10 y/o HF engine crane. They have a few other models to choose from:

HF Trans Jacks

There are many, many items I insist be made in USA however at my pay scale cranks, rods and jacks come from overseas.

We also have a model that inserts into the floor jack. Regardless of how I strap things down it's kind of tippy. I like the dedicated trans jack for all things under the car. It is great for rear axles, etc.

Old school all mechanical transmission jack which I used to borrow. Have never seen new ones for sale, and only in a blue moon used ones.
Ratchet action hand crank. Very stabil.

I had the harbor freight aluminum motorcycle jack for a day.... and returned it. Got the Craftsman piece and it was better.... of course I do actually lift a bike with it smile. It’s similar to the unit whitdart posted. Works pretty good for the trans r/r too.

Buy this one and you won't be sorry. I had the one that goes in a floor jack. Then the cheapie small scissor jack and last year when one almost fell off it bought the Harbor Freight one listed above. It works GREAT.

I have used this one and it works ok. Its not super low profile so on my car you have to put the trans on the jack under the car, which can be kind of a cluster. I stick my electric impact on it and it raises and lowers it great. I recently had the transmission in and out about 10,000 times in a weekend to fit the CSR shield in my A-body. Without this jack it would have been an even more tragic of an experience.

I'm about to make a cradle that will fit onto the existing jack something similar to this:

I've been lucky enough to pick up 2 really cheap. I have a Blachawk I traded a guy 2 cases of Old Style for, and a Hein-Werner I gave a guy $20 for when he was going to throw it in the steel dumpster at work.

They do make life much easier.

I have a transmission jack that I use for transmission work as well as rear ends and pulling the front suspension. Very versatile piece of equipment if you're clever enough to build some attachments.

Does anyone make a jack that sits low enough to get a 904 under the car while on the jack with the car on standard jack stands?

I just did the clutch on my NV5600 Cummins with that same jack. Keep in mind it's really meant for flat tranny pan automatics. You have to get creative in order to get it to cradle an oval shaped manual trans case. And I had to modify the chain set up some to get it to be reliable. That NV5600 they say is 400+ pounds and I believe it. It was nice being able to dial in the angle of the trans both vertically and horizontally so the input shaft could go right in. I would not waste money on the cheaper one they sell, the scissor type with the strap.
