Sorry to hear that John. I know you guys were buddies. I remember you introduced us at a swap meet in ohio in 2004 or 2005.

One of the few that understood band overlap timing. So many things just go away solely because the people in the know just die off over time.

Fortunately his knowledge and valve bodies will live on. Keith at 727specialists got all the Mopar stuff.

Yep, I have one of 727 specialist trannys, and it's been a darn good one. I've collected a few griner brakes over the years, and they've all been spot on.

I believe Paul Forte owner of Turbo Action was the first 727 guy to look at and make better the 2-3 overlap problems in manual shift valve bodies way back in the early 1970 work scope
I'm not trying to take anything away from Mr. Griner, maybe he follow up better on Paul initial work, maybe not shruggy
I wish now that I had bought one of his valve bodies when he was making them, but I didn't whiney realcrazy

Could be he was first, I don't know. Griner for sure knew hydraulics.

RIP STEVE GRINER!
Over 20 years ago I met Keith Long now known as the 727 SPECIALIST at the drag strip! We started out as competitors but quickly became friends.
Keith has built my transmissions since then. Early on he convinced me to get ahold of Steve Griner and get one of his valve bodies. I still have the catalog and valve body from back then. Years later Keith actually started working with Steve making the last of the Griner Mopar valve bodies! I remember Keith sometimes taking valve bodies in lieu of pay! When Steve sold out the only way to get a Griner valve body was to buy a race transmission from Keith. Finally this has come full circle with Steve working out a deal with Keith to continue on with the Griner Mopar valve bodies!

At time I had three of his trans brakes here, but trimmed the herd down to one. They’re a good unit. Currently running a Pro Trans one now... clean N

Keith helped me a couple of times with some trans brake questions. Had an older unit that was different from my other 2 and he had all the answers.

First met Steve in '90 at Columbus and he talked me into putting his stuff in my 904. Later on we used his VB in our Glide. Neat guy. He really thought outside the box. Not many like him left.

I have bought a couple of foot brake 727 valve bodies from Steve years ago. Also bought a billet transbrake. All his valve bodies had superior hydraulic circuitry for increased fluid flow and quick shift timing.

Steve will be missed, but his valve bodies will continue to be available thanks to 727specialist - Keith Long. Contact him for all your Torqueflite transmission and valve body needs.

All of Steve's valve bodies are built by eXtreme and keith just sells them. Correct?

Rest in peace My friend Steve Griner.

No Extreme is not making them. I own all the Griner 727/904 products. I have purchased everything from all the CNC programs-drawings-fixtures-special tools-and all the old stock in the shop.

Others have tried to copy the Griner valve bodies and they all have problems.

I am doing a small run now and will have a bigger run going by spring. This will be the real thing and not a copy. Keith
