Anyone familiar with Dodge 270 hemi? Wondering what is available that could be used in this engine. Looking for a solid roller lifter that has a removable tie bar. None of the tie bar lifters I have laying around will fit between the lifter boss and the block deck. I had some old isky rollers that had a removable fork style tie bar, but I have no idea where they are anymore.
I could machine a slot in the deck, but Id rather not take any structure out of the deck, as this will be heavily boosted.
I have a set of .937 keyway lifters that I could use, but the lifter bosses look a bit thin for bushings.
Any suggestions?

I’ve been in contact with him. Great skills and nice work, but (understandably) secretive on his info on parts/ sources of this stuff. As with anyone good with their craft, there is a long line to wait in for his work. No doubt he is the “go to” guy for the Dodge hemi stuff.
I offered to pay his premium for parts I need. No go unless he is doing the build.

I just measured the lifter bosses. I do not feel there is enough material around the lifter bores to open up for the bushings needed for the keway lifters. Looks like I’ll either need to fork one side of a tie bar lifter, or find removable tie bar lifters.

I’ll have to call hotheads about the lifters. Ther dont show them or list any info about them.

That's a bit before my time, but...that may be a Chet Herbert deal. I've seen similar pictures (been a few decades back) and it seems Herbert was doing stuff like that.

I may have some info in my old Direct Connection books on the early hemi stuff. You may have to call Doug Herbert and talk to him.

Also, I wouldn't b afraid to call Isky and see if you can send some pictures to Ed and let him look at them. He's been there since almost the word go.

Isky used to make roller lifters for these, maybe they still do. Have a friend that did a red ram in the 50s and it had all isky roller stuff, thought it had slotted link bars, but been at least 25 years since I saw the inside of that engine. He still has the engine, I could ask.

I wonder if those are the Harley-based roller lifters that I have read about?

0.73" (ish) lifter body with a sleeve to adapt it to the .904" lifter bore.

Now that you say that, they do look like a harley roller. Im not looking for a new set of these though. Just looking for .904 lifters that can be separated.

That comment rings a bell, I was told by someone at Engle their Chrysler tie bars had the "double open end wrench" style tie bar. Maybe Engle is worth talking to in addition to Isky.

Steen in NW USA makes the decent rollers that Herbert used to sell
Herbert is no longer in business don't order from there but I have used 829-16 comp 440 solids in early Hemi before--they are solid body and tall enough to work
Rueben Cams in Calif used to grind all of Herberts stuff and they have the cores --know the grinds and may be able to supply the lifters as well or see Rickys garage om Youtube --he is west coast early hemi Guru and can supply lifters easy as pie I bet
Why mess with that dinosaur stuff pictured--they belong in the Garlits Museum

Thanks for the leads! I have no intention on using the lifters I posted. Just thought Id share what I was dealing with.
I didn’t think anyone would have roller cam cores for the Dodge low deck. From what I have been able to gather, the 241/270 low deck blocks have different lifter bank angles compared to the 315/ 325 inch tall decks. That in itself scares me. Looking for a cam grinder that knows that there is a difference may be difficult. I looked into making 3 billet UGL cores. They don’t need the gear, so they would be simple to make. Just not sure about the treatment/ metallurgy that goes into a core.

On that there would be no better than ISKY to check with --They will Know for sure
Good luck! Save the old core maybe getting it reground as solid thumper will be best option--maybe skip roller

Google searching it comes back with a surprising number of hits to the HAMB. Lots of people seem to indicate you can use LA lifters in the early Hemis, they are close enough to work for flat tappets and hydraulic tappets. I don't know if there are any LA lifters with adjustable tie bars though, you may have to slot them yourself.

The bottom one looks like a Harley panhead lifter with the adjuster removed.

From what I understand, the last gen twin cam Harley lifters are LS Chevy pieces too.
