I ran that setup on the rear of my '68 Hemi Road Runner.
No problem with fit, plenty of room using stock Ramcharger steelies at stock ride height.
I think the actual height is just over 27".
The 8" is a bit narrow for a 295/50, sucks the sidewalls in at the rim; a 9" or 10" rim would be a better fit, but they were OK on the 8".

We checked again, tread is 10"ish and it's close to 27" tall. Hmmmmm
BF Goodrich says 8-10 rim on their site. I want to know actual section width measurement on 8" rim before thinking which direction to go....

I have 295's on 3 different sets of wheels, 8" wide steelies, 8" wide Rallye's & on 8" wide Cragar's. I don't have any measurments currently. Pictures for reference on how they look.

12.2" section width according to Coker Tire.
Didn't want to trust my memory but that seems right.
Narrower rim tends to reduce section width slightly, but better to err on the big side.
