Dom, Do you have an engine mild enough to test/tune my carb on? I can meet you any afternoon for a hand-off. I've got co-workers who live in Victorville that could deliver or at least get it close. I'm just west of you in Quartz hill and work at Plant 42. I may even throw in a Holley Ultra HP 950 that needs to be tuned for a 625HP Chevy 427 to be a driver, not a drag racer... Don't need a "mild" motor to test on and most 4150's just get modded, assembled and shipped unless they're a BLP with a dual pattern base plate. Hit me up and I will set ya up and give you enuff BLP jets and bleeds to keep ya busy..... 760-900-3895..... There you go 67charger. Dom is willing to help you out. Take the help.
Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

Alright, the short version is that I'll soon be going to a 650DP from Dom. I have wanted to get away from the vacuum secondaries for a while, and I am finally going to pull the trigger.
The longer version is that I'm going to keep trying and learning in the meantime. I have an International Travelall with a 329 that is in desperate need of a carb, and the bigger displacement and lack of daily driver status will be more fitting to tinkering.
That being said, I am going to lean the idle screws out before leaving from work in a few hours, and tomorrow I'm going to lock out the secondaries.

What if you had a leak, between the main body and the baseplate.
(right about now is when somebody says it never happens)
A stock engine really shouldn't need to idle at 12.5:1. I understand if the mixture screws were enriched in as a test for driveability effects.
I have found warpage/leakage very common on 4150's.....both older and newer models. Brand new and used. 2300's also.

hi all this talk about carb , where is your timing at ?
if you hav a vac control on the dist un hok it and drive it for test .
to much timing at cruse may be your prob ?
just tkinkin out loud .
float level too low can cause these symptoms .
migh try a 10.5 pv also All good points for sure but I never ever consider a VC Carb for anything no matter how mild and I put dp's on everything with success and lots of happy customers plus why use a variable(vacuum)for tuning when mechanical works flawlessly when tuned for the application.........

migh try a 10.5 pv also Second line of the original post: Timing is 16° - 35° by 2800 (vac unplugged), Vac advance is in use Fuel level is at the correct point in the windows. 10.5 PV caused all the extra fuel to come in WAY too often, like lightly accelerating at cruise from 65 - 70.
