I have a 4.5 Block with a 4.5 Crank.

What Rod Length and Compression Height should I use to get Pump Gas Compression with Aluminum MP heads.

Thanks

Most everybody uses a 7.1"/.990 pin rod for that. Hopefully your crank is 2.20 pins. Make sure of the width. It's easier to find rods if your crank pins are Chevy width. Compression height doesn't tell you everything on a Hemi because of the dome. Just call Ray Barton and tell him what you have and he will get you pistons. I have a beautiful set in my shop. I can get you the number if you need it.

I have a new World 4.500 bore block that I'm building a 572 C.I.pump gas motor for a local customer with FHO CNC ported Stage V street heads, I used a set different set of rods(Manley SS I beam rods) and had Diamond make the pistons. This motor ended up with 11.04 to 1 compression ratio due to me thinking those heads would be 175.0 CC, they aren't shock Their 169.8 CC shruggy
They can make what ever piston compression ratio you want or need as long as you know the stroke, bore size you want, head CC size, rod length and wrist pin size up scope
Most of the other decent piston companies will do that also for you thumbs

Look at that weight. Nice. And the pin doesn't go into the oil ring. Nice. Gas ported. Thin rings. (But I wouldn't be afraid to go thinner.) Modern pistons like these are one of the reasons why Hemi's make 800 HP today instead of 425. Life is good.

Mine uses 7.00" BBC rods. Custom Diamond pistons spec'd for big nitrous. It is around 11:1 w/ MP aluminum heads. The folder w/ all the info on it is at home...I can get you my measurements tomorrow.

I am not worthy. Mine is only a 528" Hemi.

Custom (Nitrous) 10.5:1 Compression (pump gas, street car)
1/16, 1/16, 3/16, didn't go hi-tech on ring pack due to street driven
Mopar Heads, 10.5:1 Compression, 2.250"/1.900" Valves
4.503" Bore
4.150" Stroke
7.100" BBC Rods
CH 1.370" (I think) I would have to look at my build sheets again also.

Before you buy pistons, check with ICON pistons. They are United Engine & Machine Co. Have been making pistons since 1923. Longer than anyone else in the country. They made the first aluminum pistons. You will not find a better quality piston, or better price. Not really a sales pitch, just facts. Call Daniel or Glen at 775-882-7790

I missed that part on mine. My pistons are JE's. Nothing wrong with JE, ICON, Diamond or Gibtec's.

DoubleD any info on those cp pistons? Spec sheet possibility. What crankshaft are you running?

Much as it's never been in style to say anything nice about Indy, Diamond makes a stocking/shelf piston for them that looks pretty nice with a 7.100 rod. It does use support rails for the oil ring pack.

It uses a 990 pin, has 1.35 compression height, weighs 695 grams and uses standard 1/16-1/16-3/16 rings. There aren't any tricks in them, just a relatively short compression height. Has a 73.9 cc dome per specs, I have not CC'd yet. 804IN is the package number.

Also any info from you Hemi Allstate. Must be a similar piston?

OP you can't go wrong with any piston MFG that has been mentioned, however , after touring JE pistons facility this year at EMC and using 2 sets of them recently I doubt anyone else can meet their quality vs price. My vote is to call Ron Beaubien @ Diamond or Jim Irwin @ JE and tell them what you want. Either will deliver. J.Rob

Don't be scared of thin rings. 1 millimeter , 1 millimeter and a 2, or 3 millimeter oil is very common now.

I bought a set of NOS $250 mopar performance weisco slugs and got the K1 6.86 rods and K1 4.5 stroke crank with standard Hemi Journals...Had less that $1600 into the complete rotating assembly including balancer and 130 tooth flywheel. Tim
