I have a Hemi k-frame with the skid plate. 1 inch diameter bar from previous K-frame worked. Having difficult with 1.25 diameter bar. Suggestions?

Who's bar? Hotchkis front sway bar kit comes with shims to help center the bar in the hole.

Not sure. Solid iron bar, similar profile to stock. Pretty sure shims would be of no help here. Thought it was a Hemi bar from Mopar, but just doesn't want to go thru the k-frame.

To get a bar that size through you have to separate the skid plate on one side and pry it down a bit then weld it back up. Learned this that hard way when things were all painted up pretty.

70 & up bar. That "pry open the skid plate" thing ain't gonna happen. Its powdercoated, assembled, and mounted on the car. Maybe I'll mock-up a 1&1/8 bar from conduit and see it it works. Shame to have big torsion bars and a stock 1" sway bar.

You have a 1.25 bar? Or a 1.125 bar?

Vert -- I've experienced problems fitting my 1.25 front sway bar through the k-frame of my e-body. IF the k-frame has been ever so slightly bent up (reduced in passage way size), then yes, you will have problems making a 1.25" bar fit through it. In fact, some of the aftermarket "hollow" front 1.25 sway bars (I know Firm Feel's 1.25 is actually 1-5/16) actually measure their diameter closer to 1-5/16"... and then more fitting problems!

Spreading the k-frame to open up more is very difficult... needs to be torched/heated and then spread with a hydraulic spreader... that's how I had mine done after trying without a torch.

Or else you could just try a 1-1/8 dia sway bar. BUT, IF the area has been crushed, then you'll have to make a decision.

Great info Mopar Mitch. Its an Al Debevic converted Hemi K-frame. Not bent or crushed. Just too tight for the bars I have. Think I'll try the mockup if I can find some 1 and 1/8ths conduit. I can't bring myself to cut the welds after spending the bucks for powdercoating.

Or, take a 1.5" by 6' long pipe section and slow pry your way through the K frame. There is a strap in there that is likely slightly bent up or when the skid plate was welded on, it slightly shrunk and pulled it up.

Roll bar tubing sections work great for this, especially if they are .095 wall or thicker. Steel tube fence posts might also work. EMT might work, but really isn't stout enough to push out a k frame and skid plate, but its worth a try. You probably only need a slight amount of clearance to get it through.

BTW, you have stepped up the rear springs rates as well so you don't have an severe understeer issue by having so much rate up front? Big T bars and a big sway bar equals big wheel rates.
