The old stage V heads were basically a cast iron 452 head with some minor modifications. It has been a long time since I looked at a set of those. I think Mopar added a little wall thickness in some areas but that was about it.

I don't recall a Mopar aluminum Stage V head. Stage VI was an aluminum head.

Stage V = Iron
Stage VI = Aluminum

I have a set of “standard”(original style, raised std port) stage 6’s here that have that casting number.

The “part number” for them is P4529335.

Not including the Chapman stage 6’s, there are 4 different versions of the stage 6.

-Original stage 6(raised std port, straight plugs)
-MW stage 6 with angled plugs(raised MW port, small kidney shaped chamber, needs .485 offset intake rocker)
-MW stage 6 with straight plugs(MW raised port, std heart shaped chamber, straight plugs, .485 offset intake rocker)
-street stage 6(later called the aluminum commando head, non-raised std intake ports, straight plug)

They certainly look like the basic Stage VI w/ the RB intake spacers. The Crane rockers are standard-offset, and it's a standard M1 intake in the pics, so that should rule out being a MW version.

Stage VI seat inserts are borderline wide enough for even a 2.19" valve; can't see a 2.25" fitting w/o replacing the inserts. Even then, those ports aren't likely going to benefit from a valve that size as small as they are.

I've done several sets of the Stage VI MW angle plug heads. They are a giant PITA to make work, but they can make power.

They suck to port for sure.

As Brad said, std port intake on spacers on an RB block, std offset rockers and straight plugs = original stage 6.

And ditto on the seats.

The heads only come with intake seats that are 2.187”........ and don’t go very deep.
If they haven’t been replaced already, they need to be.

Why Chrysler used seas like that I have no idea. They did it on the W-5 heads too. The first step on heads like that is a seat replacement with a quality ductile iron seat.

VI, or 6.

The visible number is the raw casting number, Last sold as machined/packaged P4529335.

Originally std. port window. Could be almost anything now, though.

thanks guys ! i am looking at this engine for use in my charger. it's a 500", and seems to have reasonable parts. was thinking to replace the intake with an original, 62 MW intake and carbs. then, just a general refresh on the block. has an A&A trans with a RMVB, an aluminum drum setup, and 5 pinion planetaries included. available 3500 converter plus other parts.
wife and i need a good day trip, and this is only 100mi away. owner has no problem tearing apart for a look see.

You’d still need to use the spacer plates with the x-ram intake, and without the heads and spacer opened up to MW size, there will be a pretty sizable port mismatch.

I had a customer who wanted to do the same thing intake wise, really just for the looks........ I just opened up a set Stealths.
The report I got was it worked fine.

Stage VI heads have a variety of well known problems but some of them worked just fine. If it was me I'd look for evidence of any water leaks. See what the plugs and ports look like. Even if it ran great for the current owner the heads might develop a problem for you. Could still be a good deal if the price is right.
