I love this build. It seemed to go together so much easier then most of the gen 3 builds I read about and runs good too.

LOL. Its to late for me. I have a 572 that is 3 hours from being done and a ATI heads-up type powerglide that could be finished in a day and I haven't touched them in weeks. A 512 mega block is sitting on another engine stand and a W7 R block in the corner. I'm racing my small block almost weekly but I sure isn't getting any easier to hit the track.

It is just a pile of parts I picked up. 4.100 R block 48 degree, 2 sets of used pistons, Arrow rods, Calais crank, roller cam and lifters. No w7 heads but it cam with Jessel rockers. This one may be for sale this year.

3-4 of them showed quite a bit of wear, they were used stockers off a core motor I had bought. I purchased a full new set and am using those now.

I'm going with new OEM rockers too...really wanted to try the Arrington rockers but not wanting to spend the $$$ right now...Only need enough power to run well into the 9's for now.
Looking like I'll end up running a front plate as well, trying to make as much room for headers as possible.

Freshened the engine this winter, new lifters (because I'm paranoid), new stock rocker arms, new timing set and a redesigned piston (same compression). Overall my builder was very happy with how everything looked, he said after 400 runs we could have reused the bearings.

The biggest change made was going from a 727 to a powerglide and switching from a 29.5x10.5W bias to a 28x10.5 Pro Bracket Radial.

First run out of the box was a 9.82@136 and all of the other 10 passes I made last weekend were in the 9.80's as well. I'd guess I lost about a tenth in ET, all in 60 foot. Previously the car went 1.37 60 foot, it now goes 1.42. The higher first gear compounded with only a 4.10 rear gear causes the car to lay on the converter for the first few seconds of the run until it can catch up and for about a second after the shift occurs.

This winter I might move to a 4.56 and make the chassis legal for the 9's, the track hasn't said anything to me but it's going to happen eventually. I'm licensed, I have all the safety gear, however the car needs a cage and window net.

Wow that is awesome news to hear about the structure of the motor. these new motors are a great cost savings. I am slowly getting parts to build one, very similar to yours, not as fast but respectable.

Thank you

Glad your G3 and car have done well...

Why the piston design change, please detail...and are these shelf or custom units?

727 vs Glide, thoughts and impressions? Glad you went with the glide?

Keep the progress reports coming, much appreciated!

Any new track videos to share?

Thanks!

We replaced a custom JE piston with another custom JE piston. Same dome and compression, they're strutted at the bottom now instead of traditional style.

So far i'm happy with the swap from 727 to glide, its a better tool for what I do with the car. Super class racing, bracket racing etc.

Still don't own a go pro and have no plans to buy one.

Triple check out the SJ4000 cam on amazon. 60 bucks to my house. it appears to be worth the money butt I haven't taken to the track yet. worth reading up on it to see if it fits your needs.

Just a thought and oh your car is awesome!!

Thank you

Just read through the whole thing and i dont recall seeing what valve springs you used I have a slightly larger cam .638 lift and was wondering the spring you chose I've seen that the stock rocker arms dont really behave well with non beehive springs so was just curious

Looks like i've missed a few posts.

Valve Springs check fine after 500 runs, i'm going to keep using them for now.

I'm sure you could drive it on the street, people drive much more rowdy stuff than this on drag week every year.

Winter upgrades: Had Ray "Sixpackgut" port the intake manifold, Cut out the roll bar and put in a cage so the car is legal to 8.50. Going from a 28x10.5 Pro bracket radial to a 29.5x10.5 Pro Bracket radial. Will likely go from 4.10's to 4.56's as well. Rewiring the car and doing some other odds and ends to hopefully shave some weight.

Now that is sub 10.0 legal I can finally stretch its legs and see what it will do.
