Wow! I just don’t understand the tight lips on this subject. People been waiting for years on this tranny. Now a new player is in the mix who maybe a co-owner/distributor. You would think with people at the Nats this thread would have blown up with information. Do anyone know more after going to the Nats? Anyone stop by the Passion booth?

Well, I got to drive my buddie's Roadrunner this weekend. He wasnt sure what his list number was. He thought low 300s. He did mention that the shipping documents showed that his transmission shipped from Casper, Wy. He got the A855, installed it, and after a few break in miles he invited me to see how it works. He said the installation was exactly like installing an A833. No surprises. His setup is a 700 plus horse Hemi with 4.10 dana 60 and now the A855. He has a McLeod RXT twin disc clutch. After driving all I can say is WOW! First, second and third gear sound like an old M22 but fourth and fifth are nice and quiet. His RPM at 75 MPH is just under 2600 which is perfect for his cam and power band. He says that's down about 1100 from pre five speed. The thing shifts like a modern sports car. Real smooth! He has to put about 200 more miles on it before he can get on it hard, as the instructions say he should be easy for 700 miles of break in, so it is still yet to be seen how some full power runs go. My impression is that the A855 is probably actually worth the cost, especially compared to the tremec installations I am familiar with. Impressive!

I wouldn't say his transmission is noisy. It does have a distinctive sound in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear that strongly reminds me of the old M22 Muncie shallow helix angle though. Guys used to say the Muncies whined and they became known as "rock crusher" but I would just call it a distinctive sound. In 4th and fifth gear the sound reverts to being comparable to an A833.

I've been on the list since 2014 for a B/E unit. Got a call from Jamie about a year ago and he said he was updating the list. Ask if still want a tranny, I said yes plus I want to add an A body one. Haven't heard any since. So was at Mopars at the Strip in Vegas this spring and what do you know, I'm standing there looking at the 855's in the midway. The guy is from Casper and said he is the money man on these. I snag the B/E unit he had. Still wanting an A body one. He said he can get me one.
Now on the tranny itself. We put in a 70 Challenger with a 440. Have over 5000 easy highway miles on it. For the most part we are happy with it. Yes it sounds like a rock crusher in 1st-3rd gears. Quite in 4th and 5th.

This thread has really slowed down. Any new information about the production? For those that do have one, is the noise/whine in 1st-3rd gear annoying?

I've had mine for 4 1/2 years and cant say I have noticed a noise/whine in any gear. It might have a somewhat different sound than the 833 it replaced but I would attribute that to the aluminum case over the cast iron case.

Talking w/John, they're still waiting on parts to build complete transmissions.

Sheesh, these US suppliers are ridiculous. Maybe w/the new and improved NAFTA, they can get parts from Canada faster.

Heck, Tremecs are made in Mexico and they seem pretty reliable.

Yes, I received mine maybe 2 months ago for my 69 Coronet.
I have installed it and it truly does bolt right in. Now I just have to finish the rest of the car to try it out!

Just curious, does anybody know the weight savings between the a855 and the a833?

It is not much if at all. I think it's actually a few pounds heavier.

Early A body A833 weighs 128 lbs with shifter.
New A body A855 weighs 118 lbs with shifter. Not bad... 10lbs less and an extra gear with 700 FT lbs rating.

Have they been tied up producing the M25? Are they still producing the A855?

I ordered one from Jamie this afternoon for my 1969 GTX B-body...he told me it would be 6 months to get mine since they are building E-body transmissions right now.

If someone had one available now, I would buy it.

I got the same call last year and then got another call a couple of months ago saying my trans was ready if I wanted it. I think I was #381 when I originally signed up. Transmission installs just like the 833. I am running dakota digital gauges, so I had to buy a short extension for the speedometer cable to make everything work. Easy fix. The car is so much more fun to drive down the highway now! 1969 GTX, 525 horse 440, + 175 hp nitrous, 12" mcleod diaphragm clutch, 4:10 Dana, 28" tall tires. Ran 3000 rpm @ 60mph before and now runs 2600 rpm @ 75 mph. Still in break in period. 150 miles down, roughly 500 left to go.
