Chrysler codes:
1969-1970 = EB5
1971-1973 = GB5

You can Google "Chrysler EB5 paint reference" and should be able to find a link to a cross-reference from the factory code to various paint suppliers' mixing codes.

Whoever mixed the paint for you may have mixed 68 or 69 B5 blue instead of 70 B5 blue. I think as time went on, each year got a little bit darker blue. I remember being at a car show once and seeing 2 B5 blue cars parked side by side. One was a 69 and the other a 70 model, and you could clearly see that 70 car was a little darker blue and not as bright blue as the 69 car.

1969 B5 is the same as 1970 EB5.

1971 GB5 was a different mix.

Things like how accurate the factory mix was, temperature & humidity when it was sprayed, etc., etc. can all affect what our eyes see after the paint cures.

Add in the older repaints & the newer base / clear paints & not all original colors are shown as they originally were.

I always thought the '71 B5 had a greenish hue to it, when compared to the earlier years.

Re the pic attached...

- I THINK the rear license plate bracket that came off my car shows a GB5 repaint, even though my car came w/ a spare quart of EB5 that wasn't a good match for the car

- The test strip shown below the bracket is the "modern" B5 like a new Challenger color option, which is supposedly based on EB5

- The old paint factory chips IMO show EB5 being more of a "pure" blue, whereas I agree the GB5 has that greenish tint in comparison

As someone else pointed out, there are sooooo many variables that come into play when trying to identify paint colors. Just a change in the lighting when I was taking pics like the above made the differences in the colors appear far more extreme than they looked to me. This one looked more "real" than some of the others I took.

shruggy

This 1970 color chart shows what I think is "typical" for EB5.

Here's another one from the test strip... lots of metal flake, like the EB5 color chip in the chart above... Testors 1-coat lacquer hobby paint.

I had my local paint supply store mix up some for me so I could paint my engine bay & roll cage and other parts. Original paint on the car was PPG & they matched it perfectly.

I went trough this with my dads 68 charger .
I will tell you the 68 color is more of a turquoise blue .
when mixed in single stage Centari enamel was the closest to original .
the 73 B5 has more of a purple / dark tinge.
68-69 I think were the same .
70 not sure could be a different mix,

68 is different than 69-70

74 changed again
