I'm trying to determine if, when installing a remote side mirror on a 71 B body, you are supposed to route & secure the three cables that go from the mirror to the remote control on the door panel.

I've looked in both the original chassis and body service manuals but they don't mention it.

I'm asking because I just had a side mirror installed by a restoration place and they secured the cables with zip ties. As a result the cables are stretched and they are getting stuck on the window mounts when the window is raised and lowered.

Anyone have any knowledge on this?

Thank you!

Jim

Here's a picture (best I could get) of how the cables are mounted within the door.

That bottom thing in your photo that's marked as a tie should be secured to the leading edge of the door. There's a hole for it and the barbed end of the plastic piece gets pushed through from the inside out. That keeps the cables from getting caught up when the window goes up and down.

your lucky day! found the pic I grabbed back in the day from the thread mentioned ( not the one I posted )

Check for the words MIRROR wrotten with a sharpie... front of door and close to the joystick location. The thread I posted is not right on one of the locations posted.

Don't they clip into a square hole?

Great, thank you.

Now I just have to figure out how to contort my body to actually reach those clips. Gymnastic lessons? Yoga?

Somebody told on board you could try lace the clip with small cord or nylon and get it trought the front hole to pull it out with it. I could reach it with my arm thought. Not easy!

Thanks for the picture Nacho and yes, round hole in the previous question.

As far as the first hole, I too, couldn't get that sucker in and isn't easy. After spending over an hour trying to get my arm in there, to find that hole, try to push it through, I put one of these on for the first hole and done.

My original clips are long gone. I fish a cable tie with the fat end too big to go through the hole in from the outside of the door, wrap it around the cable, and push the end back through the hole.

They are available new, with open end to reinstall them... on several sizes

Any local supplier must have them. Is not a Mopar thing, just used that for the search.

NachoRT74, thanks for posting that pic, it helped a lot. I just got the old mirror out and a replacement in.

I'm very disappointed that the shop that installed the mirror didn't use the black clips at all.

1) They used a zip tie near the inner control, which was positioned too far from the control to prevent the cables from interfering with the window travel.
2) They added a metal bracket and attached it to the inner door via a bolt through the front clip hole. Fortunately I was able to remove this bracket with little trouble.

I'd be hot at the shop that did that
