Quick question for the group. What is your opinion on getting insurance for a car sitting in your shop being restored. What companies do you use for your collector cars?

My opinion is that you should get it.

Hagerty is set up at the race track at Norwalk this week. I’m going to stop by and talk to them. I bought a new 26 foot car trailer last year and finally got off my butt and bought coverage for it a month ago after a friend ripped his apart in Ohio. Total loss.

Grundy all the way.

State Farm insured my Dart when it was being built for the last 17 years before my garage burned, I had comprehensive on it for $16/year and they paid me $35K for it. I was able to buy them out of it for $1K and they never got the title so it is still clear. Everyone should do that for any car that is not mobile for any period of time. twocents

They also insure parts for the car that's insured.

They won't insure a car with nitrous though. Only Heacock Classic would (I think their underwriters are American Modern).

I have comp on all the cars we don't drive, dirt cheap and they can't say you haven't had insurance on it for years and have to start new. Also if you need to actually drive it you just restart the liability policy. My old Agent would let me restart it for a day just so I could legally move them somewhere. Now if I could get dirt cheap occasional driver insurance for my van and Dart I'd get en both running and drive em once and a while. I could certainly use van to pick big things up once and a while. Right now can't afford to have insurance on 2 extra cars.

I heard Hagerty requests that there be progress pics on the project for it to be insured during the resto so if the projct stalls for a year or two does that mean no coverage?
