One of the rubber lines on the supply side of the pump is sucking air.

take the line off at the carb & fill the bowl at that fitting then hook the line back & & start it & see if it keeps going. Repeat 2 or 3 times. If no go after that then what Supercuda said, work upstream from the pump toward the tank to find the porosity/hole/issue.

hi
remove gas cap at tank ,

unhook line going into pump ,

blow 25-40 lb air pressure through line.

use an elect pump to flush / draw fuel from line.

no leaks then reconnect and fuel should flow .

Or the steel line has a rust pin hole somewhere.

I tend to forget rust, don't have much of that around here.

Started my 6 with a gas can, connected the hose to the tank side of the fuel pump. .do you have a clear fuel filter bet the pump and carb?to see if the pump is working..

^^^ good point, this easily elims everything rearward from the pump & will likely simplify diagnosing. If three bowl primings wont take care of it then this is what I would do.

How long has it been sitting?

I have had cars sit for a long time and the varnish from evaporating fuel clogged the line/inlet/sock.

There are several backwoods ways to check for clogs/bad pumps.

1. Use compressed air to either blow back through the line or into the tank and see if the air makes it through the line to the other side. Not too much pressure required.

2. If the tank has a good bit of gas in it, and you raise the back of the car with a jack it should flow out the line in the front from gravity. That works for most cars.

3. Do you have an electric pump? I use one to transfer fuel and start up cars with suspect fuel systems so I keep a spare set up for it on the shelf. Connect the electric pump in place of the factory one. If it starts the problem may be a bad fuel pump or flat cam lobe.

4. Hook the mechanical pump to a gas can with a fuel line in it to test the mechanical pump.

hope it helps.
