the whole purpose of a street race car, is to spend money making it fast. not pretty. not safe.
there's plenty of tracks down south where that car would be fine

OK OK exact proper decisions were made as to fast vs safe and you agree with all of them--dumbass still did not have a seat belt or helmet--you in for that too???

Most of us, but not all have done such acts before when first getting into this hobby/way of life. Even Shirley Muldowney has had her flare with the street.

The problem here is that cars are so violently fast and hacked apart to have that edge on a no prep surface and a no prep $)-(!t hitting the fan situation.
No-one there looked at the moisture building up on the cars glass and body, a clear indication of money and ego over common sense at all.
The very same thing happen to friend of mine way back in the early 90's with a very fast Malibu.
His urgency to show the other side how fast and furious his car was had eclipsed common sense on a humid/moist night. I was yelling at him to keep the car on the trailer and he still went against a better judgement. He too, walked away to see his three children sleeping their beds that night. Car was totaled. and facing the opposite way towards the crowd in the hole. Again, everyone was lucky that night.

I am guilty of running a car that should have a cage and I have been stopped but there is no way I would run a car with that wet air.

Dang. The driver should go buy a lottery ticket. I admit - I run on the outer edge of “adequate”. But skating on a bucket full of razor blades and dynomite? I just don’t get it. Shoot. I’m not even comfortable letting my kids ride in the back of the Duster anymore since I installed a roll bar. Ignorance is bliss I guess....

THIS fiasco reminds me of a Thursday nite/Friday morning race in the 'burbs of Detroit in the late 80's on I-275. We all roll out from the Denny's around midnite with about 6 pair of cars to race. First pair was Terry Irving a NOS 351 Cleveland Mustang - heated the tires - staged the car - left good but hit the button toooo early !!!!

He swerved JUST LIKE THAT guy but bounced off about 8 cars that were on the side watching the races l it took him 5 plus years to pay off all that damage. I don't think he ever street raced again.

There were other screwy instances there at other times .., I had one MEself ! lol

True, but the family he takes out when he hits their mini van didn’t choose to take that risk. I know the spot seemed reasonably safe for other traffic, but that is not true all the time.

I dont drink, but I dont hate people who do but I am aware of the stats around drinking and the crashes and deaths from it.

My point is statistically drinking and driving is far worse and cause far more harm then street racing, neither is right.

I dont hide the fact I street race and even with good equipment and a very rural place its still foolish to a point, kinda like the drinker saying "I take the back roads home". Still wrong on both fronts.

Our time here on this earth is not perfect, its not going to be perfect, and some say it wasnt made to be perfect, unfortunate things happen every day in every aspect of life.

Just like the current hurricane in Florida, very sad and unfortunate but people who live and build there know it can happen, are they foolish? No, just human.

Youd think the telephone and ele. companies would be more considerate all things considered beyond street racing, them poles have killed a many but I wonder about rolling and ejection?

Not many things right there... No cage, probably nothing left of the stock safatystuff either,no helmet,no suit, telephonepoles, damp surface.
Some dont even get the fact that a cage makes the car quicker. That guy should be happy to be alive.

I'd like to know just how there getting by without the law around. Theres trafic on the road where all cars are parked.
Forty years ago we felt lucky to make a pass or two in the middle of nowhere without the law breaking up the party.

Have a great day
