Dumb question but how do I install the grommet in this plate? I cant put it in the plate and slide it over that lip on the end of the column. I'm assuming I have to put it on the column and THEN try to install the plate, correct?

OR do I put the grommet in the plate and slide it down from the top after taking all the steering wheel end stuff off?

Its not obvious n the picture but the hole in the plate is oval because the column enters it on an angle PLUS the grommet hole in the plate has a lip further complicating the install.

My first attempt would be to see if the is a notch or low spot on that column tube lip at the bottom and try to "thread" it on, otherwise you'll have to take the long way home and slide it down the top of the disassembled column.

Either way I would put the grommet on the plate last by carefully wrapping it around the hole in the plate.
