Question. Will a pair of 4" Magnaflow mufflers be quieter than a pair of 3.5" Hooker aerochambers ??

Car is 547 big block with quality custom headers and twin 4" X pipe, mufflers before the diff , No tail pipes .

If you are using it as a daily driver you need to get the exhaust out from under the car. Too many places for fumes to get into the interior and it's sleepy time crash.

A daily driven 547 stroker, with 4 inch exhaust?

I think it'll be close. The Aerochambers are pretty mellow anywhere BUT WOT, then they scream pretty good. The Magnaflows are about the same IMO.

I have a pair of 4" Hooker Max Flows (straight through style) for my cuda and was VERY surprised how quiet they are.

Could you give us an estimate of the lengths of tailpipe before and after these large diameter mufflers?

Your post made me think that surely
4 inch diameter pipes
have lower exhaust gas temperatures (EGT) than 2.5 or 3 inch diameter.

If the EGT changes then the RPM where annoying resonances occur changes.

Weather changes EGT, including humidity.
Makeup of gasoline changes EGT, especially percent of ethanol.

I now realize I have been “wearing blinders” as regards another important factor in EGT.

Changing to bigger pipes would move resonances.
Changing to smaller pipes would too.

Why not? I've seen some monster daily drivers in my time.

If it matters,I've went through a "lot" of mufflers looking for something that is reasonably quiet for a 3" system, best I've found is the Dynomax Super Turbo, couldn't be more satisfied.

Not apples to apples, but I have a 2002 Ram Van with a stainless magnaflow muffler and high flow cat. It is quiet in the van until you romp on it.
Van is just a big echoing chamber so I would bet you would like them if you are looking for quiet.

I would try moving the muffs up behind the rear end near the rear bumper first and see if that helps make you happy scope twocents up

Those Dynomax Super Turbos are good as long as you don't mind losing a bunch of power compared to a straight through style muffler. Switched my dad's road runner (480-500 hp 440 six pack) from a pair of 3" Ultra Flows to 3" Super Turbos and was immediately disappointed by a very noticeable seat of the pants power loss.

Mufflers in stock location w/ turndowns at the axle.
