bought a sport fury about 6-7 years ago,no motor tranz,roller,not much interior,been working on it making a street rod type ride,in my checking out the numbers on the car I have found out it may be a max wedge car,the fender tag shows a 9 under the motor number,anyway all the numbers match the fender tag,cowel,speaker tray etc,my question is I don want to retore this car if its a max wedge car,whats something like this worth without motor,rear end tranz?

is there a battery mounted in the trunk?

no battery anywhere front or back,car was pretty stripped
how ever there are a few holes in the pass side of the trunk,we dodnt know what they were for

also read that the 63 steel front end max wedge cars had the battery in the front,only 63,s that had the batteries in the back were the lightweights

Check the floorpan for the exhaust brackets that are unique to the MW cars..You should have an extra hole in the dash frame for the MW choke cable as well...Brake lines will be rerouted for the MW exhaust manifolds...ETC.. Plenty of ways to quickly verify if the car is the real deal..

Can’t you check a VIN list that Darell Davis published of all MW cars built?

You really ought to buy the Davis book on Maxies if you even THINK you have one. Documentation is key, and the info in his book is thorough & fascinating in any case.

Depends on the build date, battery moved to trunk on all MW cars February 1963.

Look at the pass front brake line on the firewall, Max wedge where routed in a different spot than standard engines.

Post a picture of the firewall - especially the area around the driver side.

I tried to buy one of his books awhile back and they are not available at this time. I did e mail him about a car and he responded quickly the other day about a car I had found. If you e mail him the vin you can find out very quickly if its a real max wedge car.

MW with A/C? Gotta be a clone.

On the correct MW firewall the most noticeable differences, besides the cross-firewall brake line, are the relocated voltage regulator, engine wiring harness and the rerouted brake line from the MC. All of these are easily replicated. I believe the one thing that is usually ignored when cloning a MW is the extra parking brake cable guides welded to the underside of the floor pan.

I once saw a pic of what was reputed to be a MW prototype, instead of the cable guides welded to the floor pan they drilled holes in the floor and installed a couple of seat belt eyebolts and routed the cable through them. I did the same thing when I built my MW clone.
