Is there a recommended way to assemnble these things to prevent the fuel leaks? New lines from Fine Lines.

Really? I would have thought the grease soluble in fuel. I'm going to try it tonight. Thanks.

The lube is like Master said, for the threads. On a flared fitting the threads are only there to push on the flare on the tube to the cone on the fitting. It could also be a bad surface on the flared end. Polish the flare on the open end. Mark it with a Sharpie and dry assemble. The ink should transfer to the cone all the way around.

Makes sense, the leaks are all at the T-blocks, not the carbs.

Is there a recommended way to assemble these things to prevent the fuel leaks? New lines from Fine Lines. Flare the end of a piece of the correct size soft copper tubing, cut off the flare and insert into the fuel inlet fitting,no more leaks. Also, comes apart with ease and you don't have to mess up the tube nut.

Yes, the tubing wrench one is a biggie that a lot of people overlook.

Is the grease method also acceptable for flared brake line fittings?

Is the grease method also acceptable for flared brake line fittings? I'd be wary of using any petroleum product on brake components as it's not compatible with the seals. The trace of grease that might get in the system probably wouldn't be enough to cause problems, but I wouldn't take the chance. Maybe a little silicon brake fluid could be used as a lube on brake line threads?

I've also run into this issue. There were several things that I've found with the fuel line kits not having the flares aligned straight with the male flare in the brass tee's. I now do some slight bending to get the fuel lines to align straight with the brass tee's and where the lines go to the fuel inlet on the carburetor. I also had one of the brass tee's that the male nipple was machined off center. The new steel line worked for me better than the stainless kit. Also I've noticed that the fuel inlet fitting on the carb. had a noticeable groove where the fuel line was previously seated. What I do now is replace the fuel line kit and the carburetor inlet fittings every time I have to remove them so every thing has a new mating surface as it goes together.

I had the same issue. For me the fix was using "Type 3" Prime Seal Aviation gasket sealant. It's made by Versachem. Worked like a charm the first time.

A couple years ago when I was getting my T/A back together, I was having a terrible time with the fuel lines leaking terribly. I talked to my engine builder, and he laughed and said just put some red grease on the threads before you install and tighten the fuel line fittings. He said that works like a charm. I couldn't imagine something that simple would work. But I tried it, and it worked like a charm, dry as a bone! This is the only correct way to install them. Any and all inverted and regular flare fittings need lube and are designed for sealing at the flare, so no sealant should be used. Really tight fittings with the proper wrench like mentioned above is the way to go. Lube allows you to get them really tight. Grease or oil only around fuel systems.(I use motor oil) Teflon sealant could easily contaminate a fuel system if used on flare fittings.

As mentioned above, lube the threads and tighten the fittings while holding the part they are threading into.
Also, I've found most leaking fittings including brake lines need to be tightened, loosened and re-tightened about a have a dozen times to really seat them. You will notice the jam nuts threading in farther and farther each time you cycle the tightening process until they actually seat.
