Does anyone know if the CSR trans shield from a 904 will fit an A500? I am always looking into overdrives after drag week and this got me wondering since I just put a shield on right before drag week.

I still can't see spending the money for a gear vendors. I figured I could build an A500 with Cope's billet valve body for the cost of a gear vendors unit.

Truth is I probably won't do either one but it doesn't hurt to dream haha.

I would see no reason why it shouldn’t. They didn’t really change anything in the front 1/2 of the case when the OD unit was added.

I’ve had a CSR shield on order since July 2nd for my 904.

I'd go gear vendors all the way, Clark.
Darren is doing an A-500 for his 65 Dart, and already picked up a used CSR 904 shield. The parts order from Cope was 2800$!

i would go a500----the overdrive unit is virtually the same as the a518 and i think the cummins a618 has one more clutch----pretty bullet proof setup....

We got one from A&A in august, it had a year off of the cert already but they discounted it because of that. It ended up being kind of last minute as they was no good way to run a blanket with how close the TTI headers were.

Yikes! That might change things. I checked out the billet valve body when I picked my trans up from Boone, it looked nice!

Maybe a low gear set in the 904 and moving from a 4:10 to a 3.73 or 3.54 will be the way to.

I have a A500 and a CSR shield. I can take a look for you.

The A500 has stiffing ribs that the 904 does not have.

The area of the main case at the extension housing looks to have a different shape

The electric plug looks like it will crash

my A500 still has all the ears and bosses on it that need to be cut off for a sheild,so I could not really test fit it. It looks to me like a blanket would be the way to go

Thank you for taking the time to look into that. Looks like a no go.

I could stand to lower the trap RPM anyways, a 3.73 might be a better option to lower highway RPM, or realistically increase highway MPH.

Bump up to the 3.73, put in a low gear set. I understand that all the drag racers with deep gears and perfect converters discount using the low gear set, but with a heavy, tight converter, mild geared street car, I think its the way to go.

I've got the low gear set, 3.89s and a 31 tall tire. Considering going to 3.73 if I keep spraying it as it seems rpm limited at 139 mph regardless of the ET.

I agree with Billy for your combo. I have played with the A500 and I think it is great with the right combo for a different use.

I think you will be quicker with your combo with a low gear 904 and a flatter rear gear. For sure that will be cheaper, easier and lighter.

So you did the whole drag week with a 4.10 gear and a 28" tire? That's impressive. I have 3.23's with a 28" tire and I still desire an overdrive button lol.

My favorite route would be a turbo 400 with an SFI Reid case and a Gearvendors. No blankets or shields to deal with in that setup. I believe that's the route Quickrunner is going with his Demon build here on Moparts. And the GV can handle full throttle even on a high powered car. Pricey though.

Yeah Bob, lots of DW is on 2 lane roads through small towns etc, which makes for a cool drive and makes cruising 55-60 not as big of a deal. I don't have a problem so much with the RPM the engine is turning I have more of a problem with the speed we are going lol. I envy the guys with overdrive that breeze by us at 75mph way more than the guys that come by with the air conditioner on.

Then there is the guys who run 7.50s, go down the road in overdrive, and have the AC on.
