A few years back someone here was selling brackets that enabled the end user to bolt a starter directly to the engine (la/b-rb) without a transmission, for test fire up and so on. Now im trying to find that and they aren't here anymore. What the heck.
Who was that? Are they still around?
Thx

Test stand. But only if it works...guess that explains why the part isn't around anymore!

I made some of those for Hughes Engines. Just a thick piece of steel that bolts to a few of the bellhousing bolts and provides a place for the starter to mount.

I bought one from a member a few years ago. I made a post looking for the member that made the starter plates for an engine break in stand and he replied.

Might be me you're talking about.
I made some a few years ago - needed one for my 440 and it worked fine, so I made a few extra in case anyone here wanted one. Same thing with valve cover spacers. All were aluminum, cut by water-jet. The starter adapter keyes off the block/trans locating pin.
But I couldn't sell enough of that stuff to keep doing it.
I think I have one left. Or, I can draw the pattern for you & mail it out.

A quick search turned up a few old threads about this. This item was linked in one of them.

That's not the one I made, mine was much smaller, nothing surrounding starter.

Okay thanks, they're out there then.

I dont have a flywheel handy so maybe I'll stick with using a core trans with an old converter.

Just trying to come up with ways to simply this for next time.

Yup, that's one I made, or an exact twin.

when using a converter [for the starter ring gear] on a test stand, is it a better idea to cut the converter and remove the guts, just leaving the pilot face and ring gear ?
