Put my 1965 Dart 2dr post car on scales today. Weighs 3115! No driver, 1/2 tank of gas. I was unpleasantly surprised.
Whats in the car; all steel, 408, 904 trans, Ford 8.8 rear, stock back seat, ProCar light weight buckets, no heater or ducts. Coil over and rack and pinion front
Suspension, Wilwood medium street brakes up front, ford discs in back. Full 2 1/2 inch exhaust to th e rear bumper. Motor has iron heads, airgap intake, TTI stepped headers.
15x4 rims and 155r15 tires, 31 lbs each in front. 8.5x18 with 245/45/18 in back, 47.5 lbs each. SS springs.
I was surprised it was that heavy!
56 % weight on front,44% back.
Corner weights, no driver;
Lf 911. Rf 832
Lr 646. Rr 726

8..603 156 mph best, 2905 lbs 549, indy 572-13, alky

I don't know if I'd call that a porker, but maybe a little more than I would have guessed. smile

Sounds about right. My little brother has a 66 Dart GT. All steel, full factory interior, Factory buckets and console, no exhaust, just headers, aluminum headed 408, 6 point mild steel cage, s/s springs.

Weighs 3300 with him, he is 240-250 ish
I suspect your exhaust weighs a good bit, probably 60-70 pounds?

My Sons 1970 Duster is 3200 pounds with him in it at the line (160-170 pounds). Almost as stock equipment as you can get except for a heavy fiberglass 6 pac hood (no other fiberglass). It has caltracs, 8 point cage, frame connectors, stock glass missing wipers and wiper motor, one stock factory bucket seat one race seat, rear seat still in car, factory bumpers and mounts, stock front suspension with only a shock change.
Stock stroke, stock crank 360 that goes 6.54 so probably around a 10.30 in average weather.

Like i mentioned in another post, the plymouth line of early As are shorter, 105.77 inch wheelbase versus 111 inch for my Dart. Other things that add up ; the trunk lid on my Dart is huge and heavy.
I am not sure but i think the 8.8 adds a few pounds as well. John, your sons' car hauls the mail darned good!

2948 at my last scale session including my 200lb self. I think that was with the glass bumper and light brackets, but not sure. Going to scale again if I ever get it running. Have lost 16lb with a hood change, 46lb with a trans change, aluminum driveshaft, rear disc brakes, moved me back 3”. Few other things removed here and there. All glass still factory

We found over time Greg that the convertor plays such an important part of the puzzle. I’m sure he’s leaving ET on the table with the 4.10 gears and 727 transmission but it loves a 6400 stall convertor. He just pick up a 742 case set up with a 35 spline spool and 4.56 gears so hopefully we will see how that works out. He hopes to test it before the Halloween Classic

Wow! You all are making me feel good about my 1970 Road Runner.
With me in the drivers seat and 5 gallons of fuel my weights are:
LF 720 RF 715
LR 751 RR 712

Total 2898
The driver is 200 of that. The car is a big block and 727 Dana 60.
No interior, fiberglass everything and lexan for all but the rear windshield. I have split mono leafs and stock front suspension with light weight A arms and aluminum hubs and Wilwood disks.

I usually marvel at most Board members when they guess weight of their car, they always guess low.

Sounds about right. I've seen the effects of weight or the lack of it. Not only on performance, but also the wear and tear on parts. I've gotten to be really anal about weight. And when I see guys do things like throw .134 wall roll cage kits in to save a few bucks or not do easy things to shed pounds, and then spend money to make more power, I just shake my head.

Many years ago, when discussing a new car with Herb McCandless, he told me, and I paraphrese - The best money spent is reducing weight; it doesn't break, it doesn't wear out, it doesn't blow up and you don't have to fix it every winter. I use that philosophy every day.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Last time I weighed The MoPig w/ me in it and 1/4 tank fuel, it was 3755 #s on MIR's digital scale.

Since then...
- the Victor heads weigh more than the old Stage VIs
- the Strange S-60 weighs more than the old 8.75
- the modified hood likely picked up some weight
- the driver has probably "found" maybe 30#s, too

I'm fully expecting the next time on a track scale with me in the car, the weight is going to be 38xx...
