I know its not mopar but in general its a tire question. He has a 07 HHR that has 205/50/16 tires on it. We junked out his PT cruiser that he just had put new tires on it. They are 225/55/16 tires. I did calculations on line. Said tires were the same except one was like 8.1" wide and the other was 8.9" wide. It said revolutions per mile one was 811 and the other was 812. He can't get any tire place to swap them. They say they will affect the computer and take it out and that there is not a direct fit. One place said he would change them over but wanted $50.00 per tire to swap and balance. IMO he was saying no but if so you will pay.
So any ideas?

Take them to a used tire shop and have them mount and balance. We have a bunch of little used tire places around here that don't care what tire on what rim within reason of course.

Does anyone think based on tire sizes pretty much being the same there would be any issues?

I don't see any problem. The ones who say it will throw off the computer don't have any idea how they work

Hot air---you have an error in your numbers. The numbers only jive if the sizes are
205/55 and 225/50. You have 205/50 and 225/55.

Assuming 205/55 and 225/50 you are right, they are the same diameter. They will not screw up any computer period. There COULD be an interference issue with the wider 225 tire, but not likely. You can figure this out by inspecting the vehicle including lock-to-lock checking the front and allowing for some suspension travel, but I would be willing to bet it's fine.

The problem is the factory doesn't specifically spec the 225/50 as a sub, so the lawyer-driven tire shop won't do it.

They will if you bring the wheels in OFF the car though, and don't tell them what they are going on.

many, many, years ago, i got ripped by a tire shop, so i built my own tire changing machine. it's a manual one, so there is work involved, but i don't have to put up with today's crap about tires ! a bubble balancer and a vintage snap-on static balancer has served me well over the years.
