Why are 1967 440 lifters different than other years? What are the differences?

Early pushrod cups in the lifters were very small and the pushrod end for thenlifter was a pencil point design where later they went to a larger ball/radius.

Not sure what year we went to ball but around that time frame if I recall correctly.

Mopar specified 1/4 pushrod cups in all their V8 lifters up to 1967, 5/16 after that shruggy scope

As long as the lifters and pushrods are for the same year, it’s not a problem.

67 and earlier lifters need 67 and earlier pushrods.
68 and later lifters need 68 and later pushrods.

Thanks for the answers.

Can anyone tell where would be the best place to buy a set of '67 1/4" pushrods? Are there any brands that are better or worse than others?

Do you want stock size and type replacement pushrods or better after market ones? work
I may have enough of the originals ones for complete set work
If you want better than stock I am a dealer for Manton and they will make what ever you want that will be a lot stronger and stiffer than the stock OEM ones are.
PM me on here if you want help on this up

It isn't the pushrod that's 1/4", just the tip. You want the largest diameter pushrod that'll fit in your engine.

Actually if you're buying new pushrods I'd think seriously about changing to the later style lifters and pushrods.

Custom pushrods can be made with a wide variety of ball sizes.

If you’re installing a new cam and lifters, that’s what I’d do.
