Which is the inlet heater hose from water pump?

Flushing antifreeze on a 71 440. Kit tells me to tap into heater hose at top of engine. Both hoses look like they go into the water pump. Which is which?

the inlet side of the heater is the hose that comes from the thermostat side of the water pump.
