I've really got a lot to learn about tuning but am getting after it. Not sure if the new 1.56x1.75 "950" is really a step in the right direction for outright power, but it sure feels nicer overall to drive than the previous 1.75x1.75 "1000". The logic being this isn't a dedicated drag car, maybe the smaller venturi will work better overall with my tighter than normal converter and so on. It seems to hit slightly harder off idle so that's a good sign.

I think IFR is pretty close now after changing it a few times and observing, now after buzzing around a bit it seems wot and light cruise need to be leaned out slightly. I know all this wideband business is old hat to you guys but it's still relatively new to me. There's so much info out there it's can be too much sometimes.

Been Enjoying the journey in the meantime, and have been re-living some of the stuff that got me hooked on these crazy cars in the first place.

Very cool to see the beast out and about again where it needs to be. Wideband is also new to me Zippy for hotrods. I worked with 02 sensors for many years on stock Mopars but not much with the wideband 02's on our hotrods. But I grew up tunning my cars by reading plugs and the feel of the eng like I am sure you did. And I still tune my hotrod that way as I have no 02's or wideband setup on my 63. I agree it is good to know just what the car is doing. I was surprised when a younger guy looked shocked when I told him I don't have a wideband on m 63 and I tune the old way. He could not believe I could tune it without a wideband. I am 62 now and sometimes feel like the old man in the crowd. But its good to see you driving the beast again. Ron

The GTX sounds good and glad you got it back on the road. Enjoy!

Zip, I updated my '65 with one of these digital dash setups. Now I can keep track of a bunch of stuff.

Did you mean 1.56x1.75 ?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I think you might enjoy playing with a tool called an IBOX Chrysler Engineering uses for the same type of purposes (+ a whole lot more) on modern vehicles. It's a big box typically suction cupped to the windshield that shows all that kind of jazz plus much, much more, depending on what you really have for sensory outputs on the vehicle. Add in everything related to a computer controlled transmission, drive by wire, ABS, etc. Then apply that to something interesting like a Hellcat or what have you.

I can view live data on my 2005, using my Predator, for similar info. So far it hasn't helped me a whole lot with the car, though. Last issue I had with the car was found the old fashioned way/process of elimination.

Well maybe, I don't know, maybe you can help correct my misinformation?

It is whatever a marketed-as-1000cfm 4150 downleg booster "RACE DEMON" (lol) was, before they stopped making them.

I always thought they were straight but maybe they aren't.

What are they supposed to be?

Yeah the IBOX would be cool but I don't think they'll loan me one!

Not sure on your old carb, could have been 1.56 venturi or 1.59 venturi or something in that area. The carb guys have been making some big ones recently. They work pretty well on the dyno and on drag cars but not so great lugging a heavy car around in stop and go traffic.

I actually saw one on racingjunk years ago, couldn't believe it.
Guy wanted 5 grand, and probably got it too.
he was probably a disgruntled former engineer or similar.
When you think....that device is the tool to get into the computer and tune anything Chrysler ever made....seems it could pay for itself if a person wanted to head down that road.

I will take your guys word for it on whatever the carb venturi was...over time I figured I went overboard with that one looking for a power number without considering the big picture. "1.5-something" is fine with me. I'm just looking for small driveability/bottom end/hopefully 60 foot improvements at this time.

About half the hot rod parts I've purchased in my life have been "too big"! It is a nature of the beast. I think everyone buys stuff to make power then they start driving the car and decide that they don't really need all of the go fast stuff. Smaller usually works better for both carbs and cams although going big on the cubic inches is usually a win. Chevy hit a home run with their 502 crate engine by making it big but putting a really small cam in it. Lots of street rod guys love that engine. Just drop it in and drive it.

Been informed the previous carb is definitely 1.56, not sure why I thought it was straight. Probably didn't care enough to commit it to memory.

I'll go back to the bigger carb if this new one doesn't perform, but I'm liking the smaller one so far and it seems it might work.

The Race Demon “1000” has the same Venturi/throttle bore configuration as the Speed Demon and Mighty Demon “850”, Race Demon RS “1025”, Gold Claw “1025”, Holley HP1000, and old school 850 double pumper # 4781 and 8162.

Thanks, I've been corrected a few times on that point now, so maybe I will remember.

I wasn’t correcting you, simply pointing out that the advertising wizards at some carb suppliers have a way of fluffing up the cfm numbers from carbs that are all the same “size”.

I’m pretty sure a Race Demon 1000 and a Mighty Demon 850 used the same main body.

Fair enough, but I did have it completely wrong after all, so no big deal.

Thought about selling it but it might be a good match for larger ci stuff later on.
