My M-code notchback is coded T75, CO1 SPD (12/1/68)

So GG book states:
all these are E70x14
T72 WSW 2P/4P
T73 RSW 2P/4P
T74 WSW fiberglas
T75 RSW fibreglas

So T72, T73 are likely Firestone wide oval white and red streaks.
T74, T75 Goodyear fiberglas/polyglas.

I have a '69 340,4spd Swinger BS coded T62 which is D70x14 WSW 2P/4P
I know for a fact that GG books are not 100% correct.

I'm the CARETAKER of Weinstats '69 440 'cuda registry and have 104 of the 360 cars to date. 84 fastbacks/20 coupes. Always looking for new(REAL M-code) '69 440 'cudas to add to the registry so drop me a note if any are found or known. This isn't a publicly released registry. Thanks, Dave

Can the red streaks be painted white?

iagree
all these are E70x14 the BRAND in BOLD are what I've seen for OE tires on 1969 A-bodies
T72 WSW polyester cord (Firestone Wide Oval Deluxe Champion or Goodyear SPEEDWAY)
T73 RSW polyester cord (Firestone Wide Oval Deluxe Champion or Goodyear SPEEDWAY)
T74 WSW polyester cord w/fiberglass-belt (Firestone Wide Oval SUP-R-BELT or Goodyear POLYGLAS)
T75 RSW polyester cord w/fiberglass-belt (Firestone Wide Oval SUP-R-BELT or Goodyear POLYGLAS)

the "2P/4P" is the tire construction rating: "2 ply construction w/4 ply rating" & is common to all 4 of the above tires

Goodyear was the manufacturer that brought the performance 60 & 70-series fiberglass-belted tire to the car manufacturers as an OE tire during the '68 model year (428 Cobra Jet & Hurst/OLDS). Chrysler followed with POLYGLAS being STANDARD on HEMI & OPTIONAL on many other performance cars for 1969

I believe the Firestone SUP-R-BELT was not found as an OE tire until ~Jan. 1970.
I am wrong or the dealer that "carteravs" purchased his Swinger from got some SUP-R-BELTs from the local Firestone dealership to make the sale & "give the customer what he wanted".

So how do you read the date code on the tire?

So another car i have is a '69 340-S, 4spd with A/C notchback(thanks Darrell). This is exactly the way the window sticker reads....
"T75 RED STREAK FIBERGLASS TIRE E70X14."

For some reason i thought that only the Firestone polyester tires were called red or white streaks?????

Not sure if you guys following this post realize that original Firestone tires, at least '69s that i know of, have all the writing on the inside of the stripe. The repops have the writing on the outside of the stripe.

Way back when i ordered repops for my survivor MODTOP (bought the car in Jan 2000)i received the tires and almost had a heart attack! I called Coker tire rite away and said the tires were wrong! Explained the difference where the writing was as far as the stripe.
They swore they had the "original molds" from Firestone. So somewhere in time Firestone changed over to another mold!

Anyone have any idea when this change happened?????????

Just took a look at the Invoice for my 69 M-Code Dart GTS and it says T74 E70x14 WSW Polyester Tire

I don't think Firestone had a fiberglass 60 or 70 series tire available as OE for any manufacturer until the '70 model year

the 70 series tires had a stripe from 5/16" to 3/8"

My new 1969 383 Road Runner that I bought in Sept of 1969 came with fiberglass belted Firestone Wide Oval red streaks. Lasted about 3,000 miles if I remember right! The buildsheet for my 69 340S Fastback Barracuda that I just finished restoring calls out the T75 Goodyear Polyglas E70x14 redlines. Only cost me $258/each for the repros!! I don’t know why anyone would order whitewalls on a musclecar back then??

The invoice for my 69 M-Code Dart has Deluxe wheel covers also, so these are probably the cheapest tires and wheel covers available besides the dog dishes. Most people who had 440 Darts back in the day probably changed the wheels and tires a few days after they bought the car, if not the second they got it home... work

My M-code Barracuda is all black, white walls will stand out better, my opinion and the dealer who ordered it too I guess. Besides at that time we all wanted raised white letters, bigger the better, if they weren't bought that way we used the paste to color the letters in. Nobody used red paste.

I ordered the T74 WSW fiberglass tire E70-14 for my '69 Barracuda because they look a lot better than red. Red wall tires looked strange back then and still do.

Didn't order the red fender liners either.

Both the RSW and the red liners were poorly accepted by buyers back then and short lived.

Not true. I lived in those days and ordered a brand new 69 Dart with Redline tires. So did everyone else around my town who bought a muscle car back then. WSW tires where for girls cars and senior citizens. If you wanted to be cool you ordered Redlines or raised white letter tires if available. So you don't know what you are talking about. But to each there own, its your car dude, have it your way.
