i recently aquired a 8 3/4 rear axle to go into a project dakota. it came with a set of 11 inch backing plates that i want to use. i just recently found out there are multiple widths of 11 inch brakes. how can i find out what width shoes/drums these plates need? i also see that rockauto has alot of the brake parts, but where can i get the non-wear items like the parking brake lever and cross bar? thanks for the info.

I've never seen the cross bar as an aftermarket item but that doesn't mean they're not out there somewhere...
I know I have a few used ones...
The parking brake lever I have seen at different times in the "Help section" items... They make left and right hand arms...
I've always left complete 11" brake assemblies together (Drums and complete backing plates) just to make it easier for the next guy to know what he needs to order.
I have a couple of sets laying around...If you can get pics and dimensions from the axle flange to the flange where the brake shoes set I may be able to help...

I have parking brake levers and struts, for 11 inch brakes, for your consideration.

FYI
Do a search over at forabodiesonly for how to tell the differences in backing plate width sizes.
A member routinely posts pictures and measurements in how to tell them apart.
You just have to find the replies.
I never bookmarked something like that.

Pretty easy to tell by measuring the height of the pin the the top of the shoes rest against. Allowing for the thickness of the brake shoe, that dimension if half of the width of the shoe. Pretty easy to tell a 3", 2"1/2 and 2" apart. Measure from the flat the shoe rests against (where you are supposed to put a dab of grease).

All the 80's cop car Diplomats are 11x2.5.

Might be easier to find one of those in a yard. Get the levers you need and the rest new. Rockauto has everything but the levers/struts

Don't be the exception.
