I am looking to see what fuel pump Moparts recommends for a carb application, ideally something that doesn't need an additional regulator.

I have a 360 that will be running would run off of the factory fuel pump, nothing fancy. I'd like a e-pump because the truck often sits and I'd like it to prime off of the key.

Carter? Holley?

I had good luck with the Carter's back in the day, no idea how durable they are today. Quieter than the Holleys.

I run a carter mechanical and a holly red at the tank. Very stable fuel supply.

If all you want to do is prime, you could get away with what we called a wobble pump. The mechanical pump can still pull fuel through it.

This answer is so simple that folks disregard it. Carter P4070

Internally regulated for street carburetor use.

Simple to install, comes with mounting bracket and vibration dampers and fittings.

Mine last for decades.

Less than $100.

Look at Aircraft Spruce and speciality for an Facit pump. $30 something dollars. All he needs is to prime the carb.

What is the hose barb fitting sized at for the Carter P4070? Is it for 3/8 hose? Or do you have to get a 3/8 fitting for the 1/4 npt. This is for priming purposes inline with my mechanical pump.

Is the Holley just to prime the carb or does it run along with the Carter?

Ran the Holley red pump for years on a few cars. No regulator and ran in the 10's with one on my 63. Have one on my sons Dart as its run that pump all its life. Ron

Run them both all the time. It will run with the electric off, but will not rev up over 4000 rpm. So if it dies you can get home, but no hard driving. I have run holley blue, holley black. Still had issues, i’m sure it was the cheap regulator. With this set up absolutely no issues.

I run two on carb vehicles right now. A Mr Gasket mini pump and an electric diaphragm pump purchased overseas.

The Mr gasket does fine on a Ford PU for priming and vapor lock prevention duties.

The electric diaphragm pump does fine for priming and vapor lock prevention on a '47 PW.

Both of these are self regulated and low power consumption.

If I were buying a little bigger pump I would probably choose the Carter electric. Mostly because it has some advertised suction capacity. Many electric pumps are supposed to be mounted below fuel level which is often not possible.

The Mr Gasket and Carter specify a filter in front of the pump to protect from debris.

The Carter P4070 comes with hose barbs and wiring pigtails, plus mounting bracket and bolts.

There are a couple of manufacturers making knockoffs. Spectra Premium is one.

Unless I had a very crappy fuel tank or supply there's no way I'd put a filter between pump and tank. You do need a screen on the pickup tube to keep out the big stuff. but if the pump doesn't have fuel flowing through it it will be damaged. That is what could happen with filter between pump and tank.
