Good morning! I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how I could go about finding out the original dealership where my 1970 Plymouth GTX came from? The car does not have any dealership stickers, and from what I heard the records that Chrysler Historical would've had were destroyed (fire/flood whatever did happen). Am I just at a loss here or is there another way to find out? Thanks.

I would be interested in finding out the same thing on my car. Seems we are in the same boat as they say.

Do you have a fender tag or broadcast sheet for the car. If so the number above the VIN number on the fender tag is the Vehicle Order number this number is also on the Broadcast Sheet. This is the number or paper work the Dealer used to order your Vehicle. If you can find another Vehicle with a VON close to your Vehicle and they know the Dealership then there is a real good chance your car was ordered off the same pad of VONs from the same Dealership. If not you will have to do leg work and contact previous owners back to the person that bought the car off the Dealership. Many registers might have information to help you out if they have enough vehicles in their files.

The only way to know which dealership sold it for sure is to have paperwork from that dealership with the VIN of the car on it.

Thank you very much for the suggestion, hemicar1971. I do have the Broadcast Sheet. I will try this as one of my routes. There is a registry for 1970 GTXs so I'll see if I can get in contact with the guy. I was going to try the DMV for a title search, but they only go back 10 years.

It seems like it's going to be extremely difficult with not being able to get the DMV to do title search. I don't know if you could try for Michigan. It may be the same where they will only go ten years back. I was really interested in getting a window sticker made for my car. It's a shame that all those records before '67 are gone.

Fake window stickers or any other bogus documentation give any car a bad reputation.

Hi, Alaskan_TA. My kid has been doing research about my 1970 Plymouth GTX and I thought it'd be neat to have a replica of the window sticker for her to hold onto. I never intended to use it as a fake window sticker or a bogus documentation. She is very big into the background of it and has been decoding the Broadcast Sheet. I actually emailed you about Found Information you had on my GTX on the Hamtramck Historical website. I'd be really neat to see the information you have because it's nice to be able to share the history of the old Mopars with the next generation. Just a little FYI, I've owned the car for 18 years. I never intend to sell it. God forbid anything happens to me I plan to give it to her as my son has no interest. She really loves reading your site and looking at the old pictures. Thanks!

The sad part is that window stickers have been sold as a 'novelty' item since at least the late 1970s. If you find any old car magazines from back then, look for the ads for them.

Decades go by & many new owners of those cars 'think' the window stickers are real.

It is sad.

Good cars speak for themselves, no bogus documents needed. twocents

I appreciate your two cents. It is unfortunate. Lots of the old real window stickers were lost to time and other dealership documents/records in general due to mishandling by employees.

I am glad to be able to share with her the actual Broadcast Sheet that I do have. On her own she has looked for ads online in the uploaded newspapers on NewspaperArchive and has read different things about Chrysler Corp. It will never be good as the real thing, but to give her some glimpses of the past is nice.

I appreciate where your coming from. She's learned real from 'novelty' and hopefully she can pass on the knowledge/information to other people in her generation. She and I appreciate seeing the old-time, real documents that people like you selflessly take the time to save and provide. They give you the real aspect of the car. She agrees with you and I've been sharing what your saying.

Be happy--VERY happy, that you have the broadcast sheet. As an owner of multiple e-bodies over the years that were built in LA, I've never had one.

Seriously--that's a great addition to the car, and you should not add a repro/fake doc to the mix. Period.

P.S......MY posts are worth 2 cents (max), Alaskan_TA's are worth FAR more.

I feel very appreciative to have it! I know of people who do not have theirs -- it's a shame because it really does provide you with a wealth of information. I am definitely not adding a fake documentation. I do feel as if takes away from the originality of the car -- as well as the real documents that I do have in my possession.

Thanks for your 2 cents. I only wish that more documents hadn't been lost over time. And at the end of the day I am sure the joy your multiple E-Bodies gave you was worth more than the Broadcast Sheets, even though they would have been nice to have. up

I know the original dealer for my GTS because it is in the original owner's manual along with the original owner's name. I know the second dealer because the second owner told me and the car still had a plate frame from that dealer. I also have two broadcast sheets and the fender tag. With that said, I still wouldn't add a repop window sticker, even though it would likely be accurate.

What I would suggest is to find the newspaper where you think it was originally sold. Many dealers advertised cars with VIN numbers when new. Here's an add for a bunch of interesting cars...Having the original license plate also can help. That's how I found the dealer that sold my son's Dart convertible used in 1970.

Unfortunately, I do not know the original owner for my GTX. The original owner's manual did not come along with the car. As far as I know, I am the third owner. However, there could be more history to the car. All I know is it came from the Saint Louis Assembly. When it came to Pennsylvania it could have changed titles. It could have gone to any of the states midwest and southwest, according to the registry owner for that year when it was ordered.

I do appreciate the suggestions, though. My kid has been looking through old newspapers in Missouri, New York (I remember mentions of something about that from the owner before me; no luck), and Pennsylvania online. She's tried typing in the VIN number, but nothing has came up. Thanks for all your help!

Since my car has classic tags I cannot put a replica inspection sticker on the car since I do annual inspection. I would never never intend to display any bogus documentation like the dealership info., either.

I found on the Hamtramck Historical there is found miscellaneous information for my GTX's VIN on there for 1978-1992. So, hopefully I can see what he has! I appreciate all he does for everyone, and he seems like a wealth of information.

Prices are great!

I am surprised at the number of V codes, and that there is only the one RR, and that IT is more expensive than the GTXs!

I like seeing these old ads!

I'm amazed how big of a majority base 318 and 383 cars were!

Emails piled up here during the Carlisle show, I got to yours after work today. Your car was in Philly in 1985.
