I checked the cam lift in my 470 today, i measured it with the dial gauge on the lobe and multiplied it by 1.5, i get .585 int, 615 exh. I've looked in the comp cams catalogue but can't find anything that matches, any ideas as to the make ? it's a solid roller. Mick

Andy, the engine is all together except for the heads, i had .040 shaved from the Indy -1 Heads to get a bit more comp, so i clayed the valves for clearance and measured straight off the lobe. I've been looking through the info i got with the motor and it says it's a Herbert roller D6H but i cant find the specs on their site. Thanks Joe, i didn't realise i had the cam make and number untill i looked through my stuff. Mick

The one Herbert roller I ever measured wasnt even close to the advertised specs. None of it was correct....... Not the Lift, duration, or lsa. All were off enough to where it was hard to believe the cam had the correct part number on it. Of course, nothing else in their catalog matched my measurements any better. I seem to recall Chip had a similar experience with his Herbert roller. As Andy mentioned, put a degree wheel on it and measure it up. It is what it is, regardless of what the specs say it's supposed to be. I did find this with a little digging: CD6H 260/270, 605/605, 108LC, 3400-7400 ROLLER CAM

I've just spoken to herberts and they tell me a D6H measures .604/.604 260/270 at .50 on a 108, so that can't be my cam. I haven't got a degree wheel. Mick

I've just been looking through some parts i have and would you believe i've got another herbert roller , it's a D6C, the card says.625/.625, 275int/283 exhaust at .050 on a 108 lobe centre. Mick

Sorry i went off at a bit of a tangent, when talking about the other cam, the one in the motor was the one i was looking for info about. Andy, i don't think mine is the D6H because the guy at herberts said the D6H was .604/.604, whereas mine measures .585 int/.615 exh. .390/.410 lobe lift. I haven't run the car yet, the motor's been on an engine dyno but i've had .040 shaved off the heads since then, hence why the heads are still off the car.

Sounds like its time to invest in a degree wheel.

lobe lift was .390/.410, i measured it twice on both, those numbers x1.5 make 585/610, yes i need a degree wheel. A slight distraction but here's the dyno sheet before i made my changes. Mods are swap .060 head gaskets for .040, another .040 shave off the heads and HP 1000 to 1050 dominator, i'm hoping for another 25 hp. Engine is 470 low deck, 230 block, bushed lifter bores, cross bolted mains, zero deck, Indy 440-1 heads. Mick

When the lobe lift wasn’t what you were expecting, did you check another intake and exhaust lobe?
