I keep seeing reference made to the crooked 6 on the original intake manifolds on A12 cars. Has anyone seen an original car with original manifold without this corked 6?

Does anyone know with supporting documentation when Edelbrock started selling aftermarket intake?

NO original without the ugly "6". I have never seen an original without the ugly "6".

Edelbrock may not have offered Dodge/Plymouth parts counter intake manifolds as far as after early 1970 production as there have been claims of aluminum intakes on early 70 cars. There was a claim of 69 production shortages and possibly a flaw leading to cracks and a need for warranty replacements during '69. The cast iron 70 intakes may have had an early issue but never heard anything on that (except for the '69 aluminum intakes being used on very early '70's). Had to be way late in '69 maybe even early '70 before the Direct Connection or Chrysler parts counter aluminum Edelbrock intakes were available?

Also if CHRYSLER is cast into the manifold then the manifold was made for Chrysler O.E., spare parts or performance parts sales and only available through Chrysler or DC. This is according to someone I spoke with at Edelbrock a long time ago researching the intakes. The conversation was followed up with an email that I still have a copy of.

If it’s not too much bother can you point me to where the Chrysler is cast ?
Reason being I bought my car in April ‘71 from the original owner.
It has date correct carbs on today, the same carbs that were on it when I bought it.
I don’t have that strange 6 on the intake.

If someone would have stolen the intake I think they would have stolen the carbs back then too. The original owner never said he had any issues with the car that required engine work either.

Really doesn’t matter at the end of the day as i’m not ever going to sell it but was puzzled when I checked the intake last night.

There is a nice one with good pics in the big block parts for sale section by a member, with carbs also...I don't want to copy his pics without his permission...

My Superbird has an aluminum intake with the crazy 6 on it. I have been trying to figure out if it is original to the car as the owner I got the car from owner it since 77 and that was the intake on it.

Just looked at pic, identical except for the crooked 6, so, what do I have? Had this intake 40 years always thinking it was a 69.

Does yours look like mine? I have a oddball 6, missing the "2" in the casting #, but the CH6 B on a driver side runner - this is supposed to be a DC aluminum HP replacement...NOT an A12...

The intakes shown in the shakerjoe post above are not production line intakes. While they have a goofy six, it is not the one referenced earlier in the thread.

The picture below shows the "wavey" six on the left. The intake on the right is an OTC 3412048 part number.

The "wavey" six appears to be present on the earlier A12 cars. A normal 6 appears on the later production cars. I have documented several survivor cars with this casting.

Another variant is the "smashed 6". Research continues on this one as I have not seen many of them.

What mine looks like, not an 8
What would be the approx date for the normal 6?

Heres the original to my A12 RR, 426 build date. The casting numbers are pretty faint to tell the difference to me.

I didn't though there was a mistake/bad casting on the 8.

Galen Govier once told me that he has documented quite a few 1969 build date survivor Superbirds that came with the A12 intakes.

That is what he states in the little white book.

Picked up an over the counter manifold in 1975. It has a normal 6 at the end but does have the CH6B. I think a lot of guys file down the CH6B and claim its an original.

I have had mine since 1975 (normal 6 and no CH6B) and I doubt anyone cared about filing down the CH6B at that time, way before today's numbers matching meant anything.
