My '04 Dakota, 4.7L is starting to act weird. In the morning before it warms up the steering it tight, but as I drive it the steering loosens up and is normal. Could this be the pump, box or tight ball joint? It's got 106,000 miles on it. Thanks.

Check it all, the steering intermed shaft(that would be stiff always), belt for looseness, rack and pinion and pump. Steering racks have had cold stiff issues for many years.

Thanks for everyone's help, well at least buildanother. You were right about the intermediate shaft. I oiled the universals , no more tightness. Time to squirt some oil on them every now & then. Thanks again.
